Scots secure series win over Panthers with dominant doubleheader performance

Greenville, IL - Lyon College Scots baseball took their series with the Greenville University Panthers 2-1. Scots grabbed game one 8-2 before securing a 15-9 win in game two. Lyon is now 22-8 in their 2026 campaign and 13-3 in the SLIAC.

Lyon combined for 23 runs and 23 hits across the two contests. Scots were excellent offensively as Caleb Collins tallied four hits and three RBI, Eli Marcotte had four hits and two RBI, Braden Bramlett added three RBI on three hits, Landon Swallow recorded two doubles for two RBI, and Kooper McCoy batted in two RBI on three hits two of which were homers.  Slade Inman delivered a standout performance, as in game two he drove in four runs on three hits.

On the mound, Rocco Boyle earned the win in game one with six strong innings allowing only two runs, while Jonah Wilkerson picked up the win in game two with a scoreless relief appearance.

Game 1

Lyon 8, Greenville 2

The Scots used a balanced offensive effort and strong pitching to take control early and pull away late.

After Greenville struck first in the opening inning, Lyon responded in the second with a solo home run from McCoy to even the score. The Scots took the lead in the third as Marcotte reached base and later scored on a fielder's choice from Braden Bramlett.

Lyon extended its lead in the fourth inning when Collins drove in a run with a single, followed by Ashton Compton bringing in another to make it 4-1.

On the mound, Boyle delivered a strong start, going six innings while allowing just two runs and scattering seven hits. Thomas Irwin closed out the final three innings, holding Greenville scoreless to secure the win.

The Scots broke the game open in the ninth inning, plating four runs. Compton drew a bases-loaded walk, Bramlett added an RBI single, and Tyler Hahn delivered a two-run double to push the lead to 8-2.

Marcotte and Collins each recorded two hits, while Hahn and Bramlett both drove in two runs in the win.

Game 2

Lyon 15, Greenville 9

The second game saw Lyon explode offensively early and hold off a late push from Greenville to complete the sweep.

The Scots came out aggressive, scoring six runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-RBI single from Inman and additional run production from across the lineup. Lyon followed with four more runs in the second inning, capped by a two-run double from Inman and an RBI triple from Collins to take a commanding 10-0 lead.

Lyon continued to add on in the fourth inning as Marcotte drove in two runs with a single and Bramlett added an RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. McCoy later added a solo home run in the seventh to extend the lead to 15-5.

The high-scoring contest featured heavy use of the bullpen on both sides, with a combined 14 pitchers appearing in the game as each team worked to slow the offensive momentum.

Inman led the Scots offensively with three hits and four RBI, while McCoy contributed three hits, including a home run, and scored three times. Swallow added two doubles and multiple RBI in the win.

Greenville mounted a late rally, scoring five runs in the sixth and adding runs in the seventh and ninth innings, but Lyon's early offensive surge proved too much to overcome.

Scots will head home to Batesville to face the Mississippi University for Women Owls in a double header beginning at 12:00 PM at Fred Wann Field.
