Batesville, AR - The Lyon College Scots earned their first win in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, 7-1, over the Principia College Panthers. Pitcher
Joe Galay earned the win today with quality start on the mound, while Junior
Eli Marcotte's bat was crucial for Lyon. With today's win Scots are now 6-2 on the season and 1-0 in SLIAC conference play.
Scots would take the lead early with Marcotte reaching on a single through the left side, then stealing second and advancing on a play to reach third.
Kooper McCoy would send him home with hit, driving in an RBI and putting the Scots on top 1-0 at the end of the 1st. Three quick outs in the top of the 2nd would bring Lyon's bats back out to play. After two fast outs in the bottom of the second,
Tyler Hahn and
Misael Santiago would reach on walks. Marcotte, next in the order would deliver a missile of a home run shot to bring in three runs and put the Scots up 4-0.
Principia answered with a run in the third, but Galay was undaunted and showed excellent control throughout the game. He worked seven strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven Panthers to earn his first win of the season.
Good play by both teams keep scores were they were till the sixth when Landon Swallow blasted a solo home run to put the Scots up 5-1. Another two runs would be added in the eighth with McCoy and Slade Inman coming home. McCoy would get in scoring position on a double, then come over to third on a play in the outfield. Inman would tally a double of his own to drive in a run, 6-1. He would reach third on a wild pitch then come on home with an error by the Panthers short stop not ending the inning.
Junior Pitcher Colton Will would come in relief to handle to final two innings, recording a strikeout and not allowing any runs on two hits.
Marcotte was the lead batter on the day with two hits, three RBI, a home run, and a stolen base. McCoy added two hits, a double, and an RBI. Swallow would drive in two RBI on one hit and one home run. Inman would add an RBI and a double. Hahn would recorded two hits, one of which was a double.
Scots will be back tomorrow to continue the series, facing Principia in double header beginning at 12:00 PM.
