Beavers end Scots perfect home record in a tight battle

Batesville, AR – The Beavers strong defense overwhelms the Scots on the court in a tight 72-74 loss. With the result, Scots are now 14-7 on the season.

Kenneth Brown led the Scots in scoring with 20 points and led the team in steals with three. Xavier Sorrell recorded 19 points, grabbed a team high of 10 rebounds, and a team high of two blocks. Stephen Reed was responsible for 18 points and made an impact with 5 rebounds.

Early action saw Stephen Reed tie the game with a good layup in the paint, followed by two points from Xavier Sorrell on a jumper and another two points on a layup, keeping Lyon close. Foul trouble for the Beavers allowed Reed to hit a free throw, making it a two-point game. Following a Blackburn scoring run, a layup by Sorrell off an offensive rebound kept the Scots in the fight.

As the half progressed, Kenneth Brown provided a significant spark, knocking down back-to-back three-pointers to trim the deficit. Trevon Taylor then capitalized on a Blackburn turnover with a fastbreak layup. With the half winding down, Reed and Sorrell made consecutive layups, with an assist from Sorrell, to give Lyon their first lead of the game at 31-30. Despite a late free throw from Blackburn, the Scots ended the half with a narrow one-point disadvantage.

The second half began as a defensive struggle, but Xavier Sorrell provided an immediate spark for the Scots by scoring a jumper in the paint to keep Lyon within a single point. After Trevon Taylor converted a fastbreak free throw, Sorrell added a tip-in and another jumper to maintain the pressure on Blackburn. Kenneth Brown then ignited a transition attack, scoring a fastbreak layup to bring the Scots within one. Cameron Brown briefly gave Lyon the lead with a tough tip-in, which was quickly followed by another fastbreak bucket from Kenneth Brown.

As the game entered its final ten minutes, Jaaron Harriott added a timely jumper in the paint to keep the score knotted. Stephen Reed then took over the offensive load, scoring consecutive layups to push the Scots ahead 65-64. Kenneth Brown followed with a massive transition three-pointer.

In the closing moments, Sorrell remained aggressive, finding the bottom of the net with a jumper to keep the Beavers at bay. With the game on the line, the Beavers were able to pull away by five. After a missed jumper from Camron Williford, Brody Tucker would get the final possession and sinking a deep three with two seconds left.
