Scots fall to Webster 65-77

Batesville, AR – A strong defensive pressure from the Scots in the first half wasn't enough to catch up to a dominant Webster University. The Gorloks would come around the Scots in a 77-65 win. Scots are now even at 12-12 on the season.

Kaysharia Woods led the way in scoring with 18 baskets, three steals, and two assists. Natalya Kaza records 14 points, ties Woods in steals with three, and grabs six rebounds. Savanna Lopez Packs down six blocks and goes up to grab 10 rebounds.

Lyon College started strong against the Webster University Gorloks in the first half, ultimately taking a 22-15 lead in the first quarter. Kaysharia Woods was an early offensive leader, scoring five points quickly in the first period. Kaza and Lopez helped anchor the defense with Kaza getting a steal and Lopez blocking an early shot. Camya Porter and Molly Mason also contributed, with Porter making a key three-pointer and Mason making a jumper and a three-pointer in the first ten minutes. Paris Halliburton came off the bench in the second quarter and scored a quick jumper in the paint to push the lead to 15-24 for Lyon. Woods hit another crucial three-pointer in the second quarter to maintain a lead for Lyon. Brooklyn Berry and Kaza both hit three-pointers later in the second to help counter Webster's scoring push. Despite a strong push by the Gorloks late in the second quarter, Lyon held on to a narrow 35-35 tie at the half.

In the second half, Lyon fought through a back-and-forth third quarter. Alyssa Abascal tied the game early with a jumper, and Kaysharia Woods followed with a score to maintain the pressure. Natalya Kaza provided a spark, hitting a tip-in and a three-pointer to briefly reclaim the lead. Savanna Lopez anchored the interior defense, recording several blocks and double-digit rebounds to keep the Gorloks in check. Off the bench, Paris Halliburton contributed a timely jumper, while Camya Porter remained active in the paint, drawing fouls and converting from the free-throw line.

However, the fourth quarter proved difficult as the offense struggled with turnovers. Despite late three-pointers from Kaza and Brooklyn Berry, Lyon could not overcome Webster's late-game efficiency. Woods continued to attack, scoring a late bucket to keep Lyon within striking distance, but the Gorloks eventually pulled away for a 77-65 win.

Scots are set to host the Westminster College Blue Jays on Saturday, February 21st at 1:00 PM.
