Scots fall in tough battle with Webster

Batesville, AR - The Lyon College men's basketball team battled in tough match with #1 ranked in SLIAC Webster tonight falling, 77-63. With the loss Scots are now 15-8 overall and 10-5 in SLIAC they remain 2nd in conference standings.

The Scots battled throughout the evening but were unable to keep pace with a Webster squad that entered the contest undefeated in conference play. Lyon trailed 37-32 at halftime and was outscored 40-31 in the second half as the Gorloks pulled away late.

Lyon kept the game tight early, answering Webster's opening run with strong play in the paint and on the glass. The Scots traded leads several times in the first half and cut the deficit to five at the break behind balanced scoring and second chance opportunities.

In the second half, Webster stretched its advantage with efficient shooting and points in transition. Lyon continued to compete defensively and on the boards, but struggled to find consistency from the perimeter as the visitors pushed the lead into double digits midway through the period.

Stephen Reed led the Scots with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Xavier Sorrell posted a double double with 10 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Kenneth Brown added nine points, and Trevon Taylor chipped in eight for Lyon. Reed also added a team high four steals.

Lyon finished with 43 rebounds and scored 18 second chance points, but shot just 31.9 percent from the field and 15.8 percent from three point range in the loss.

Scots will face Westminster College in their final regular season home game of the year this Saturday, February 20th at 3:00 PM.
