Scots Drop Four-Set Battle to Spalding, Fall to Webster

BATESVILLE, Ark. –  Lyon College volleyball dropped a pair of matches to the Spalding University Golden Eagles in four sets before dropping a three-set match to the Webster University Gorloks. The Scots opened the day by splitting the first two sets with Spalding, winning the second 25-22 after dropping the opener 25-19. The Golden Eagles then took the final two sets, 25-20 and 25-20. Lyon returned to the court against Webster, falling 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17. With the two losses, the Scots move to 3-14 overall and 1-5 in SLIAC play. 

Lyon 1, Spalding 3

Set One: Spalding 25, Lyon 19

Spalding took the opening set 25-19 after the two teams battled through three tie scores and one lead change. Lyon recorded seven kills in the frame and hit -.025, while the Golden Eagles produced 13 kills. 

Set Two: Lyon 25, Spalding 22

The Scots responded in the second set, earning a 25-22 victory to even the match. Lyon improved offensively, recording 12 kills and hitting .222. The set featured two tie scores and one lead change as the Scots held off Spalding to level the match at one set apiece. 

Set Three: Spalding 25, Lyon 20

Spalding regained control in the third set, taking a 25-20 victory. Lyon recorded 10 kills but committed eight attack errors, finishing with a .048 hitting percentage. The Golden Eagles moved ahead 2-1 in the match. 

Set Four: Spalding 25, Lyon 20

Lyon battled to extend the match in the fourth set, but Spalding closed out the contest with another 25-20 victory. The Scots recorded 12 kills in the final frame and hit .140, but the Golden Eagles secured the four-set victory. 

Reyleigh Twist led the Lyon attack with eight kills and added a service ace and a block. Keeley Beary also recorded eight kills and three block assists, while Marae Pounds contributed five kills. Pascha Wistrand added five kills and hit .214. 

Jenna Good directed the Lyon offense with 15 assists, while Ella Gardner added 13 assists. Chaney McCance led the defensive effort with 13 digs, and Good finished with 12 digs. Twist and Sofia Santis each added nine digs. 

As a team, Lyon finished with 41 kills and a .093 hitting percentage. The Scots also recorded four service aces, one solo block, six block assists and 71 digs. 

Lyon 0, Webster 3

Set One: Webster 25, Lyon 19

The Scots faced Webster in the afternoon and battled through four tie scores and one lead change in the opening set. Lyon recorded 11 kills and hit .188, but Webster produced 15 kills to take the first set 25-19. 2

Set Two: Webster 25, Lyon 21

Lyon continued to battle in the second set, which featured 11 tie scores and four lead changes. The Scots recorded eight kills but struggled offensively, hitting .000 after committing eight attack errors. Webster pulled away late to take the set 25-21 and move within one set of the victory. 

Set Three: Webster 25, Lyon 17

Webster closed out the match with a 25-17 victory in the third set. Lyon produced 10 kills and hit .093, but the Gorloks finished with 15 kills and a .300 hitting percentage to complete the sweep. 20261003112619-235047

Ryan Russell led the Scots with seven kills against Webster, while Reyleigh Twist, Nevaeh Ghan and Pascha Wistrand each added five. Wistrand hit a team-best .273, recording five kills on 11 attacks with two errors. Morgan Harrelson contributed three kills. 

Ella Gardner recorded 15 assists, while Jenna Good added 10 assists. Chaney McCance led Lyon with 10 digs, while Twist also recorded 10 digs. Sofia Santis added seven digs. 

The Scots finished with 29 kills and a .088 hitting percentage against Webster, along with four service aces, two block assists, three block assists and 48 digs.
