Scots Battle to the Final Buzzer in 78-75 Road Loss to MUW

Columbus, Mississippi - The Lyon College Scots came up just short in a tightly contested SLIAC matchup falling 78-75 to the Mississippi University for Women Owls. The loss drops Lyon to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in SLIAC play.

Lyon battled from the opening tip in a game that featured 11 ties and 13 lead changes. The Scots trailed 38-31 at halftime but responded with an efficient second half, shooting nearly 59 percent from the field after the break and scoring 44 points over the final 20 minutes.

Trevon Taylor led the Scots with 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, recording a double-double while playing 38 minutes. Taylor was active on both ends of the floor and helped spark Lyon's transition game throughout the afternoon. Kennedy Warren added 12 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting and provided a key presence around the rim, while Kenneth Brown chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.

Stephen Reed finished with 11 points, three assists, and five steals, consistently pressuring the MUW guards and creating scoring opportunities in the open floor. Xavier Sorrell added nine points, six rebounds, and three blocks, anchoring the interior defense, while Camron Williford contributed eight points off the bench.

The Scots used a strong stretch early in the second half to take control, turning defensive stops into fast-break points and building a lead that reached eight at 55-47 with just over 13 minutes remaining. Lyon continued to answer the Owls runs down the stretch and held a 75-74 advantage with just over a minute to play.

In the final seconds, the Owls capitalized at the free-throw line to regain the lead and seal the game from the stripe in the closing moments.

Your fighting Scots will head to Carlinville, Illinois to take on the Blackburn College Beavers on Thursday, January 8th at 7:30 PM.
