Batesville, AR - The Lyon College women's basketball team couldn't put it together falling, 113-77, to the Principia College Panthers. With this loss Scots are now 8-7 on the year and are now 5-2 in SLIAC conference play.
Lyon opened the game with energy on both ends of the floor, attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line early. The Scots kept pace through the first quarter but trailed early, however they continued to look for scoring opportunities inside while working to slow Principia. Panthers would find the basket though leading at the end of the first quarter, 25-17.
In the second quarter, Lyon stayed aggressive offensively, with Savanna Lopez and Natalya Kaza leading the charge. The Scots generated points at the line and on second chances, but Principia's shooting allowed the Panthers to take a 52-36 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Lyon continued to compete and put together solid stretches on offense. Lopez finished strong around the rim, Kaza added timely baskets, and Molly Mason controlled the glass to give Lyon additional possessions. Despite those efforts, Principia extended its lead with a high scoring third quarter.
Despite being down throughout the fourth, the Scots remained aggressive until the final horn, with contributions throughout the lineup as younger players gained valuable minutes down the stretch.
Lopez led Lyon with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Kaza added 18 points and six rebounds. Kaysharia Woods chipped in nine points and four assists, and Mason grabbed a team high 11 rebounds. Lyon also shot efficiently from the free throw line, finishing the game at 81.5 percent.
Scots will hit the road next week, facing the Westminster College Bluejays on Thursday, January 22nd at 5:30 PM.
