Marshall, TX - The Lyon College Scots football team opened their 2025 season facing East Texas Baptist University. Scots had opportunities but were unable to find the win. Lyon is now 0-1 on the year.
Offensively Lyon had 241 yards of total offense with 100 yards through the air and 141 yards on the ground.
Grayson Johnson was 12-of-24 for a 100 yards, a rushing touchdown, and an interception.
Javarion Williams led the team with 80 yards receiving.
Jacobi Williams led the team with 42 yards rushing. Defensively

Trampas Stubbs, and
Zachariah Moragne lead the team in tackles with five. Lyon had one sack with
William Litton and Stubbs each having half of one.
Lyon's first possession began on their 23 yard line, a
Keilin Hall rush for 3 yards made it 2nd down and 7 on the Lyon 26 yard line. Another rush from Lyon resulted in a fumble that was recovered by ETBU on Lyon's 27 yard line. Two back-to-back running plays from the Tigers were stopped by the Scots.
Austin Swaim broke up a pass going toward the middle of the field, forcing the Tigers to the Lyon 35 now 3rd down with 18 yards to go. ETBU would gain ten yards on a quarterback keeper to get to the Lyon 25 yard line, they would then miss their field goal attempt.
With 12:54 in the first quarter still remaining Lyon's drive would start on their own 25 yard line. Scots would lean on their ground game with Hall breaking off a six-yard run to reach the 31 yard-line. A quick pass from Johnson would find Hall but would make no gain, still on the 31 now 2nd and 4. On the next play Hall would get the first down on a ten yard run. Now on the Lyon 41 yard line, a carry by Hall and a keeper from Johnson would amount to a six yard gain. Two back-to-back 15 yard penalties on ETBU would net the Scots 30 yards putting the ball on the Tigers 38 yard line. Another rush from Hall would gain only one yard and a pass from Johnson was incomplete. Scots would score first touchdown of the season on a 22 yard carry by Johnson at 9:12 seconds left in the first, 6-0. Donavon Jordan caught the two-point conversion to send the Scots up 8-0 in the first quarter.
With ETBU up 20-8 in the second quarter, Tigers began their drive from their own 36 yard line. On the first play of the drive Litton and Stubbs break through to get the sack and a loss of seven yards. Tigers would regain those seven yards and attempt to move the ball on a deep pass that was broken up by Powell on the Lyon 10 yard line. Scots would force the punt. ETBU would go onto score again going into the half up 27-8.
At 5:19 in third quarter Lyon down 37-8, Scots had reached midfield off two passes from Johnson to
Javarion Williams for a total of 16 yards. Johnson would pass 44 yards down the field and Williams would make unbelievable catch for a first down on the Tigers five yard line. Scots would attack the endzone but would come up short being unable to score. ETBU would go on 10 more unanswered points, winning 47-8.
Scots will return to Batesville, Arkansas for their inaugural home game facing Arkansas Baptist College on Saturday, September 13 at 4:30 PM.
