Scots secure 2-0 victory over Central Baptist

Conway, AR – A strong offensive effort propelled the Scots to a 2-0 victory over the Central Baptist Mustangs. Two first-half goals, scored in the middle and late stages, gave the Scots control and secured the win. With the result, the Scots even their record at 3-3.
 
The Scots registered eight shots, six of which were on target. Angela Penaflor and Angelica Soto led the attack with two shots each. Jessica Steele, Lauren Couture, Katie Balderas, and Lillie Barr also added attempts. Soto placed both of her shots on goal, while Steele, Couture, Balderas, and Barr each tallied one on net. In goal, Millie Beller faced three shots from the Mustangs.
 
The Scots applied early offensive pressure, keeping the Mustangs on their heels. Penaflor fired two shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes (3:57, 9:28), forcing the Mustang defense to stay active. Central Baptist responded with a chance of their own in the 22nd minute, but Beller made the save to keep the match scoreless. The Scots broke through late in the half when Couture found the back of the net at 37:13 to make it 1-0. Just before halftime, Williams set up Barr for the second goal at 43:05, giving the Scots a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
 
Mirroring their first-half attack, the Scots came out strong after halftime as Balderas put a shot on goal at 46:53. Beller continued her steady presence in net, making her second save of the match in the 64th minute. Steele nearly added to the lead with a chance in the 71st minute, but the Mustang keeper turned it away. Soto closed out the match with the final shot in the 88th minute as the Scots secured the 2-0 victory.
 
Up next, the Scots return home to host Spalding University on Saturday, September 27, with kickoff set for 10:00 AM.
