Scots fall late in heartbreaker at inaugural home game

Batesville, AR - For the first time in history Lyon College hosted a football game on their own campus in their own brand new Bad Boy Mowers Stadium. Unfortunately this inaugural match up resulted in a loss for the Scots who had the lead in the fourth quarter over Arkansas Baptist College, but could not hold to it as the Buffaloes came back to win, 20-19. Scots are now 0-2 on the year.

Offensively Lyon had 241 yards of total offense with only 37 yards through the air and 204 yards on the ground. Grayson Johnson was 6-of-20 for 37 yards, two passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, and two interceptions. Jacobi Williams led the team in rushing going for 79 yards on 20 carries.  Louis Calhoun led the team in receiving with 25 yards and a touchdown. Ashton Scott had a receiving touchdown as well.

Defensively Trampas Stubbs led the defense with nine tackles, eight solo, one assisted, and 1 TFL for a yard. Keidrick Wooten led the team with 3 TFL for six yards, he also had four tackles, three solo, one assisted.

Scots won the toss and elected to receive the opening kick with Kaden Canada receiving on the Lyon 25 and being brought down on the Lyon 45. On the first Scots drive a hand-off to Jacobi Williams gained three yards to make it 2 & 7 on the Lyon 48. An incomplete pass thrown by Johnson was followed by a 13 yard QB keeper to the Arkansas Baptist 39-yard line for the first down. Rushes by Williams and Johnson only gathered three yards. Now 3 & 7 on Arkansas Baptist 36 two back-to-back incompletions resulted in turn over on downs. With 12:29 left in the first, Buffaloes have the ball and go on a five play drive starting on their 36-yard line. This just barely cross the 50-yard line as the defense including Jacob Hutto, Jabori JohnsonTrampas Stubbs make stops to force the punt.

With 9:34 still in the first Scots get the ball back on their 25-yard line. Scots go a 12-play drive with Jacobi Williams rushing for 21 yards to the first down at the Lyon 46.  Now 4th & 2 a Johnson pass to Keilin Hall is incomplete but holding is called on the Buffaloes so a new set of downs are awarded. Hall rushes for seven yards to get to the Arkansas Baptist 29. Close to the end zone, Scots try to score but two passes go incomplete, so a field goal is attempted by Jesus Romero-Castillo but it misses wide left. This missed scoring opportunity was critical.

Early in second quarter a fumble by Johnson was recovered by Arkansas Baptist on the Lyon 38-yard line. With 14:26 on the clock, the Buffaloes begin their second half drive with rushes being stopped at the Lyon 27-yard line by Wooten and Williams.
