Batesville, AR - Lyon Scots volleyball will begin their 2025 season competing in the Hendrix Invitational hosted by Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Scots will be facing off against Belhaven and host Hendrix on Saturday, Aug.30. Under the leadership of head coach
Kortney Cunningham, Scots were ranked fourth in the SLIAC pre-season poll earning 32 points.
Lyon returns a strong core including
Mollie McCoy and
Keeley Beary. McCoy has been named to the 2025 SLIAC Players to Watch list and in 2024 she was named SLIAC 2nd Team All-Conference. Both she and Beary were recognized as 2024 USCAA 1st Team All-Americans. Last season, McCoy offensively was second in total points (305), points per set (2.88), kills (275), and she was tenth overall in conference hitting percentage. Defensively she was team third overall in blocks with 45. Beary offensively was fifth in total points with 140 and kills with 121. Defensively she was fifth in blocks 28, solo blocks 8, and block assists 20.
Scots will face Belhaven on Saturday, Aug.30, at 11:00 AM. Lyon's last meeting with the Blazers opened the 2024 season, with the Scots winning out in three sets. Lyon holds a 1-3 record against Belhaven, but is 1-0 since Cunningham became head coach in 2022.
Lyon will then face Hendrix on Saturday, Aug.30, 1:00 PM. The Scots last meeting with the Warriors was on Sep.10, 2022, when Lyon fell in three sets. The all-time series is tied at 2-2.
Scots finished last year with 20-9 record overall, going 10-6 in conference, and ending their season as the 2024 USCAA National Championship runner-up. Now holding full NCAA Division III membership, Lyon is eligible to compete in postseason play and the SLIAC Conference Tournament.
