Scots sweep doubleheader from Champion Christian

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots baseball team defeated Champion Christian 8-3 and 14-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Fred Wann Field in a non-conference doubleheader.

The Scots (17-15, 6-6) trailed 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but took the lead in the bottom of the first when Kooper McCoy singled up the middle to score Eli Marcotte. Ashton Compton hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Braden Hendrix and Slade Inman hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in McCoy for a 3-1 Lyon College lead.
In the bottom of the second inning, Hendrix doubled to left field to score Marcotte and McCoy singled to left center to bring in Hendrix for a 5-1 Lyon College lead.
Champion Christian scored two runs in the top of the third to close the gap to 5-3.
In the bottom of the fifth, Landon Swallow doubled down the left field line to score Inman, Marcotte reached first on an error that allowed Swallow to score and Hendrix singled to left field to bring in Marcotte and make it an 8-3 Scots lead. 
Aiden Connolly  (5-1) went the distance in the first game. He pitched seven innings and allowed four hits and three runs. He walked four and struck out four of the 31 batters he faced. 

In the second game, Champion Christian scored four runs in the top of the first inning. 
Lyon College came back to get one run in the bottom half of the first when Inman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Marcotte scored to make it 4-1.
Champion Christian added another run in the top of the second to go up 5-1, but the Scots came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the second.
Hendrix beat out an infield single to score Swallow, Braden Bramlett hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Andrew James. Hendrix advanced to second on a wild pitch that allowed Marcotte to score, then Compton singled to left-center to score Hendrix and tie the game 5-5.
In the bottom of the fourth, Logan Lightner drew a bases-loaded walk to score McCoy, then James tripled to right field to score Bramlett, Compton and Lightner. McCoy singled up the middle to bring in James and Macotte to make it an 11-15 Scots lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Swallow reached on a fielder's choice that scored Compton, then Swallow advanced to third on a wild pitch and Lightner scored on the play. Marcotte then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Swallow for a 14-5 Lyon College lead.
Braden Anderson started on the mound for the Scots and went one inning. He allowed four hits and four runs. Colton Will, who got the win (1-0), came in to pitch the next three innings and he allowed two hits and one run. Parker Paschal came in for two innings of work and allowed only one hit and struck out two batters, while walking three. Carter Sprague pitched the seventh inning and didn't allow a hit or a run from the three batters he faced.

The Scots will be in action again on Friday afternoon for a SLIAC doubleheader against the Blackburn Beavers at Fred Wann Field begining at 12 p.m.
