BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots dropped a non-conference doubleheader to visiting Rhodes College 10-5 and 10-1 at Howard and Mary House Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (3-12)Â led 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning in the first game.
Sophie Varela singled to start the inning and advanced to second on an error by the Rhodes College second baseman.
Brianna Morquecho grounded out to the shortstop and Varela advanced to third base. MK Duffield doubled to left-center field to bring Varela for a 1-0 Lyon College lead.
Rhodes came back to score four runs in top of the third inning to lead 4-1. The Scots cut the lead in half 4-2 when MK Duffield doubled to left field and
Anna Voth singled her in in the bottom of the fifth.
Rhodes scored three more runs in the top of the 6th and three more runs in the top of the 7th to lead 10-2.
In the bottom of the 7th,
Olivia Orf single dto left field and
Gabby Thomas came in to run for her. Varela singled and advance to second on an error and Thomas scored. Morquecho singled to left center and Varela scored. Duffield doubled down the right field line to score Morquecho to make it 10-5.
In the second game, Rhodes took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and sent up 5-0 in the top of the third inning.Â
Orf led off the Scots half of the third inning with a double to right field. She advanced to third on a ground out by
Ohnrie Bergman and scored on a Varela single. to make it 5-1.
Rhodes added two more runs in the top of the 7-1 and put another run in the top of the fifth to make it 8-1. Rhodes added two more runs in the top fo the sixth to go up 10-1.Â
Lyon College went three up and three down in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.
Lasher came in the game to relieve
Georgia Holzer and took the loss in game one. Lasher started the second game on the mound and
Madison DeRoussel came in to relieve her.
Lyon College hosts a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 25 against the University of the Ozarks.
