BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots took on the nation's 22nd-ranked Division III baseball team in the East Texas Baptist University Tigers on Saturday at Fred Wann Field and dropped a doubleheader 15-2 and 8-0.
The Scots (8-7) will host ETBU in a single 9-inning game on Sunday, March 16 beginning at 12 p.m.
On Saturday, the Tigers led 1-0 after the top half of the first inning, but the Scots fought hard early on and scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game 1-1.
Ashton Compton grounded out to the pitcher and
Kooper McCoy, who doubled, scored from third base.Â
The Tigers added another run in the top of the second inning to go up 2-1, and added another single run in the top of the third inning. ETBU added three more runs in the top of the fourth, had a home run in the top of the sixth and another homer in the top of the seventh, that ended up being an 8-run inning for the Tigers.Â
Braden Bramlett grounded out to shortstop and brought in
Tyler Mohr, who led off with a single in the inning, to give Lyon College another run before the game ended.
The Scots had only four hits in the first game.
Landon Swallow had a base hit, McCoy doubled and scored a run, Mohr singled and scored a run and
Braden Hendrix had a base hit.Â
Blair Francis started on the mound for Lyon College and went 4.1 innings. He gave up 10 hits and six runs, four of which were earned. Francis walked two and struck out three of the 25 batters he faced.Â
Tyler Campbell came in to pitch two innings and gave up six hits and five runs to the 12 batters he faced.Â
Carter Sprague pitched for an out in the seventh inning after relieving Campbell with one out in the top half of the inning. Sprague gave up two hits and four runs, while walking two batters and striking out one of the seven ETBU hitters he faced.Â
Will Colton came in to relieve Sprague and got the final out on the Tigers.
The Tigers came out and took a 5-0 lead in Game 2 after two innings. ETBU added two more runs in the top of the fifth and added another run in the top of the seventh to lead 8-0.
The Scots had only two hits in the second game and both of them came from Swallow, who to singles. Lyon College batters struck out 13 times against the Tigers' pitching.Â
Aiden Connolly suffered the loss for the Scots. He started the game and agave up one hit and three runs, while walking two batters and had two wild pitches. He was relieved by
Alex Marsh, who pitched 4.2 innings and gave up four hits, four runs, walked four, struck out one and had two wild pitches.Â
Taylor Connor pitched for 2.2 innings and gave up two hits and one run to go with two walks and three strike outs.
Nick Dennington finished the game on the mound for the Scots going 1.2 innings and allowed no runs or hits, walked one and struck out one.
