Frank Toney scored 21 points,
Kylon McCullough added 18 points,
Colbie West scored 16 points and 10 rebounds, while
Malik Madison put in 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lyon College Scots past Fontbonne 81-70 on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (14-7, 11-3) were behind 42-34 at halftime, but came back to outscore Fontbonne 47-28 in the second half to take the victory.
Johnzelle Bush added nine points, Trent Bell scored three points and
John Paul Morgan had two points.
Kennedy Warren,
Tucker Cunningham and
Hudson Rogers played in the game, but did not score.Â
The Scots shot 51.5 percent from the field. They had a 44.12 percentage after the first half, but made 19-of-32 shots in the second 20 minutes to go 59.38 percent from the field. For the game, Lyon College hit 3-of-12 three-pointers and made 10 of 15 free throws.
The game was tied twice and there was one lead change.Â
The Scots scored 58 points in the paint, had 13 points off of Fontbonne turnovers, scored four second-chance points, made 30 fast-break points and got 14 points from the bench.Â
Fontbonne led most of the first half until West hit a jumper at the 13:20 mark to tie the game at 14-14. Fontbonne led by 11 points four different times in the first half and led by eight at the break.
Fontbonne led 44-34 early in the second half, but the Scots came back to take a one-point lead, 45-44 on a layup by Bush with 14:48 to go in the game. The run continued for Lyon College to a nine point lead, 53-44 on a Toney layup. Fontonne came back to get within three points twice, but a fast-break layup by McCullough, two layups from West and a three-point play by Madison made for an eight-point lead 67-59 with 3:57 go play.Â
A jumper from Toney and a free throw from West made it 74-64 with 1:05 left. McCullough made two free throws, Toney put in a layup and McCullough made two more free throws to make it 80-68 with 27 second remaining.
