Natalya Kaza scored 21 points,
Savanna Lopez added 16 points and
Haven Cooper put in a season-high 15 points in a 93-77 loss at Principia on Thursday night in Illinois.
The Scots (7-13, 4-9) fell behind 26-16 after the first quarter and trailed 50-37 at halftime. Principia outscored Lyon 26-20 in the third quarter to go up 76-57. The Scots outscored Principia 20-17 in the fourth quarter.
Molly Mason added eight points,
Dalye Hambelton added three points,
Emily Walley hit for six points,
Savannah Stout scored five points,
Jewel Walley added three points, while
Olivia Jones didn't score, but had five rebounds.
Izabel Soto and
Olivia Wallace played in the game and did not score.
Lyon College shot 44.8 percent from the field, hit only three-of-11 three-pointers and made 14 of 24 free throws. The Scots never led in the game. They scored 32 points in the paint, got 12 points off of turnovers, had 10 second-chance points, hit seven fast-break points and had 29 points come from the bench.Â
The Scots got as close as 14 points in the fourth quarter, 78-64 on a jumper by Kaza with 8:30 to go and a few minutes later cut the Principia lead to 13 points on a basket from Lopez. Lopez hit a basket with 1:20 to go to make it 91-77.Â
Lyon trailed Principia by as much as 23 points in the third quarter, 69-46.
The Scots face off with the Griffins of Fontbonne in St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.
