BATESVILLE, Arkansas - In Game 2 of a Friday double-header at Fred Wann Field, the Lyon College Scots dropped a 5-4 decision to Howard Payne to even the weekend series at 1-1.
Lyon College (4-5) fell behind 4-1 through the first four innings of the second game until the bottom of the fourth when
Garrett Graef reached first on a n error and
Ashton Compton scored on the play. Graef advanced to second and
Landon Swallow moved up to third base on the error.
Andrew James singled through the right side to plate Swallow and Graef to cut the lead to 4-3.
Howard Payne added another run in the top of the sixth inning to take a two-run advantage, but the Scots made it close with another run in the bottom half of the inning.
Caleb Collins hit a short fly to left field that ended up being a double and scored Graef on the play to make it 5-4.Â
The Scots were three up and three down in the bottom of the seventh. Collins had the only extra base hit for Lyon College, while Hendrix stole a base, while
Kooper McCoy and Swallow were hit by pitches.Â
James pitched two innings and did not allow a hit or a run to go with two strike outs.
Blair Francis suffered the loss for Lyon College. He came in to pitch five innings and gave up nine hits and five runs. He walked two and had three strike outs.Â
Braden Hendrix led the Scots hitting attack in the second game by going 2-for-4 at the plate. Compton was up three times and scored a run,
Eli Marcotte was 1-for-3, Swallow was up twice and scored a run,
Walker Smith was 1-for-3, Garret Graef scored two runs, James Andrews was 1-for-3 with two runs batted in and Collins went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Lyon College struck out 11 times at the plate in the second contest of the night.
Lyon College will play a single game on Saturday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. at Fred Wann Field.Â
