Scots defeat Eureka 88-63

EUREKA, Illinois - The Lyon College Scots had three players score in double-figures in an 88-63 win at Eureka College on Thursday night.

The Scots (15-7, 12-3) took control of the game early on and led 40-25 at halftime. Lyon College outscored Eureka 48-38 in the second half to claim a 25-point win on the road in the SLIAC.

Frank Toney led the Scots with 17 points, Trenton Bell added 11 points and Kennedy Warren scored 10. Kylon McCullough, Colbie West, Malik Madison and Jonzelle Bush all scored eight points each in the win. John Paul Morgan had five points, while Tucker Cunningham, Hudson Rogers and Luke Bridges had four points each. Gavin Brunson added a free throw for his only points, while Isaiah Sweetwine and Jackson Midyett played in the game, but did not score.

The Scots shot 55 percent from the field and made 9-of-15 three-pointers and hit 13 of 17 free throws. They scored 36 points in the paint, had 14 points off of Eureka turnovers, had 14 second-chance points, 18 fast-break points and got 37 points from the bench. The game was tied one time and there was one lead change early in the first half.

The Scots led 3-0 on a shot by McCullough to open the game, and Warren scored before Eureka came back to take a 6-5 lead. A free throw from West tied the game at 8-8 at the 13:48 mark of the first half, then Lyon College caught fire. Bell made a three-pointer, Toney hit a jump shot, McCullough scored inside and Toney made a three-pointer for an 18-8 lead. Bell is credited with another basket and Toney scored again for a 22-8 lead. West, Madison and Warren scored. Madison made a shot, West put in two free throws and Madison scored. Morgan made a three-pointer to put Lyon up 38-21 with 50 seconds to go in the first half. 

The Scots kept a double-digit lead early in the second half on scores from Toney, Kennedy and McCullough to make it 46-31. Toney's three-pointer at the 14:40 mark made it a 20-point Lyon College lead, 53-33. Morgan, Toney and Bush scored to keep the lead at 22 points. Toney scored twice in a row and Bush completed a three-point play. Cunningham made two free throws with 10:19 to go to make it a 68-43 lead for Lyon.
Bell made a three-pointer, Cunningham put in a basket and Warren scored to give the Scots their largest lead of the night at 29 points, 83-54 with 4:16 to play.

Lyon College will play at Blackburn on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
