BATESVILLE, Ark. — Lyon College women's basketball protected home court, taking down the Spalding University Golden Eagles 84–77 inside Becknell Gym to improve to 3–0 in SLIAC play and 4–5 overall. Behind a balanced offensive attack and second-half surge, the Scots controlled the final minutes to secure their third straight conference victory.
Lyon shot an impressive 47.8% from the field, leaning on efficient scoring in the paint and key late-game execution. Natalya Kaza powered the Scots with a game-high 25 points, adding five rebounds, two steals and clutch free throws in the fourth quarter. Alyssa Abascal followed with 18 points and seven assists, orchestrating the offense and delivering timely baskets to keep Lyon in front.
The Scots also found consistent production from Kaysharia Woods, who posted 14 points, five assists, and four steals, and from Savanna Lopez, who anchored the post with a massive 15-rebound, 10-point double-double. Molly Mason added nine points and eight boards, providing valuable minutes off the bench.
Lyon controlled the opening quarter 21–17, but Spalding responded with a run of its own to trim the lead to three at halftime, 41–38. After trading baskets throughout a fast-paced third quarter, the Scots entered the final frame trailing 62–56—but that deficit didn't last long.
A relentless Lyon push flipped the momentum. Strong defensive stops turned into transition opportunities, and the Scots outscored Spalding 22–21 in the final period while shooting a scorching 69% from the floor. Kaza, Woods, Abascal, and Lopez delivered key buckets as Lyon tightened its grip on the lead. The Scots sealed the win at the free-throw line and forced several late turnovers to put the game out of reach.
This victory gives Lyon its third straight SLIAC win, placing the Scots second in conference standings. They'll look to carry this momentum to Clarksville, Arkansas as they take on the University of Ozarks Eagles next Tuesday, December 9th at 6:00 PM.
