Scots Battle to the buzzer, but fall short to Austin College

Sherman, TX - The Lyon College men's basketball team battled till the buzzer rang out this Sunday afternoon but came up just short in a 74–71 setback to Austin College Kangaroos. Scots are now 7-2 on the season and remain 3-0 in SLIAC conference play.

The Scots led for much of the first half and carried a 39–36 advantage into the break after shooting efficiently and controlling the paint early. Trevon Taylor set the tone offensively, scoring in a variety of ways as Lyon built a lead that grew to as many as five late in the opening period. Stephen Reed also provided a steady presence, attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line to help Lyon maintain momentum before halftime.

Austin College responded in the second half, leaning on its bench and shooting efficiency to erase the deficit. The Kangaroos shot over 58 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes and used a late run to grab the lead for good with under six minutes remaining. Lyon answered with timely baskets down the stretch and cut the margin to three in the final seconds, but could not complete the comeback.

Taylor led all scorers with 27 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double performance, while Reed finished with 13 points and six assists. Camron Williford chipped in 11 points off the bench, and Xavier Sorrell contributed eight points and six rebounds as the Scots won the rebounding battle, 45–27, and scored 46 points in the paint.

Despite the loss, Lyon forced 13 turnovers, generated 21 second-chance points, and remained competitive until the final possession.

Your Fighting Scots will head to Clarksville, Arkansas next Friday, December 19th to take on the University of Ozarks Eagles at 7:00 PM in their final contest of 2025.
