Batesville, AR - The Lyon College Scots opened their season falling to the Hendrix College Warrirors, 78-71. Down 25 points in the third quarter, Scots battled back closing the lead to only three points but were unable to make the big shots to complete the comeback. With this loss Lyon's record is now 0-1 for the season.
Natalya Kaza had a strong showing leading the Scots with 19 points and recording 13 rebounds.
Kaysharia Woods added 17 points and led the team in assists.
Molly Mason added 14 points led the team in takeaways notching four. Savannah Lopez was the top rebounder grabbing 14, led the team in blocks with three, she also put up 12 points.
Scots would take a early lead,5-0, in the first half as Lopez put up the first points and Woods followed her on with a three. Hendrix would close it up and take lead but a layup by Kaza would tie it, 7-7. Lopez would put points up in the paint and Kaza would make two buckets to make it a 13-11 lead. A free throw from
Paris Halliburton would add another for Lyon, but the Warriors would put ten points on the board by the end of the first quarter with a three from Mason and jump shot from Woods keeping it a three point game. As the second quarter began
Alyssa Abascal made shot to cut Hendrix's lead to only one point, 22-21. Kaza and Lopez from the paint would put the Scots on top with a three point lead, 27-24. This was short lived as the Warriors took back the lead, but two jumpers from Woods and Lopez would tie it up, 31-31. A turnover would set up a Hendrix three and put them in the lead, Warriors would score 18 points maintaining their lead into the half 49-32.
Hendrix continued to extend their lead well into the third quarter leading the Scots be 25 points, 62-37. Two free throws and a jumper by Kaza, a layup in the paint from Woods, and a bucker from
Presley Andrews would chip away that the lead, 64-45. Lopez would find a way to the rim with Mason on the assist, while Woods would add two points off free throws to make it 67-51. Scots comeback would starting shortly into the fourth quarter with two scores in the paint from woods closing the lead, 70-58. A score near the net from Halliburton, bucket from Mason after a steal, and a another make from Kaza would make it a three point game, 70-67.Free throw makes from Woods and Kaza would account for the last four points scored Scots with around four minutes left in the fourth would take multiple shot attempts, five of which were three points attempts that did not connect. Warriors were able to extend the lead to take the win 78-71.
