Scots Secure First SLIAC Win with Dominant Performance

BATESVILLE, AR - The Lyon College women's basketball team secured a pivotal 85-71 victory over MUW on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville, Arkansas, marking a triumphant start to their SLIAC conference schedule. The Scots improved their overall record to 2-5 and began conference play 1-0.

The Scots established an early lead in the first quarter, ending the period up 22-17. They extended their dominance in the second quarter with a 10-point run, heading into halftime with a commanding 45-23 advantage. Lyon maintained control throughout the game, building their largest lead to an impressive 28 points in the fourth quarter.

A well-rounded offensive and defensive effort defined the night for Lyon. Alyssa Abascal led all scorers with 27 points and contributed significantly on the boards with 11 rebounds. Johanna Zocholl was a force inside, pulling down a game-high 19 rebounds and adding 13 points off the bench. Both Abascal and Zocholl recorded double-doubles.

Natalya Kaza and Kaysharia Woods each chipped in 15 points, with Woods orchestrating the offense effectively by dishing out 5 assists. The Scots' success was also evident in their interior game, scoring 44 points in the paint and adding 20 bench points.

Lyon's defense capitalized on MUW turnovers, scoring 18 points off turnovers and limiting the opposition to a 29.1% field goal percentage. The Scots connected on 82.1% of their free-throw attempts, providing crucial points down the stretch.
