CONWAY, AR - The Lyon College women's basketball team secured a tough road victory against the Hendrix Warriors tonight in Conway, Arkansas. Despite a late rally from their opponent, the Scots held their ground, winning 80-74 and moving their season record to 1-4. Head Coach
Michael Peckham recorded his first win as a head coach tonight.
Kaysharia Woods was the night's leading scorer, putting up an impressive 31 points. Woods was dominant from the field, sinking eight three-pointers in a stellar shooting display.
Natalya Kaza added 16 points and grabbed three steals.
Savanna Lopez anchored the team inside, recording a double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds and adding 10 points and four blocks.
Molly Mason contributed 8 points and 7 rebounds, while
Paris Halliburton added 6 points off the bench.
The Scots started strong, going up 9-3 early in the first quarter with three consecutive three-pointers from Woods. Hendrix closed the gap, but Kaza added a jumper to keep the Scots ahead 21-16 at the end of the first. The second quarter saw Lyon maintain control, extending their lead to 34-29 by halftime.
Lyon opened the third quarter with strong defensive plays and consistent scoring, building a commanding 10-point lead, 56-46, heading into the final period. Hendrix mounted a serious comeback attempt in the fourth, cutting the deficit to just four points with strong offensive production. However, clutch free throws from Woods in the final seconds sealed the 80-74 victory for the Scots. Lyon shot 81.8% from the charity stripe for the game.
The Lyon College Fighting Scots women's basketball will play their next game at home against the University of Ozarks Eagles this Saturday, November 18th at 1:00 PM.
