Irving, TX - Lyon College women's basketball played a competitive game against the University of Dallas Crusdaers, but late fouls created free throw opportunities for their opponent and last second plays failed to find net. Scots lose out 75-72 and are now 0-3 on the season.
Natalya Kaza was the tonight's leader scorer putting up ten points from the field, sinking two threes, and going three for three from the free throw line.
Molly Mason recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds and 13 points scored. Savannah Lopez led the team with four blocks, added 12 rebounds, and put up eight points. Kayshaira Woods scored 11 points off four field goals and a three-point field goal.
Camya Porter led the team with four steals.
Scots went up early, 5-2, in the first half with Kaza sinking a three to put the first points on the board and Mason making a layup off her own rebound. Dallas would close the lead on a fast break lay up, 5-4. Paris Haliburton would head to the line after being fouled and sink a free throw, 6-4. But on the next possession Crusaders would tie it up, 6-6. Crusaders would take the lead scoring eight points, but layups from Woods and
Johanna Zocholl would keep it a three point game, 13-10. Kaza would hit a big three to start the second quarter and tie the game, 13-13. Layups from Kaza and Woods would tie it up twice as both teams traded points. A three from Porter would put the Scots on top briefly, 21-19. Dallas would score, but a jumper from
Alyssa Abascal kept Lyon in the lead, 24-23. The lead would change hands three times off each possession, but Crusaders would have the lead going into halftime 34-28.
Lopez would make a three to cut Dallas' lead to only four points, 34-30, but they would extend their lead. A make from
Coi Bradley, Woods, and Kaza made kept the lead close, 41-36. Free throws from Kaza would cut Dallas' lead to only three points, 44-41. Crusaders would score four, but layup by Kaza assisted Woods and three from Mason would put Scots in the lead, 49-48. A layup from Mason and jumper from Lopez would keep Scots in the lead, 53-50. Crusaders would tie it, overtaking the Scots but Kaza would drive in the layup and make the and one after being fouled. With the Scots up, Lopez would put up a jumper and a layup to make it 60-57. Both teams would exchange points and come to a tie at 65-65. With a little under two and half minutes left, Dallas would score eight points and Lyon would score seven from Abascal, Zocholl, and
Da'Myia Derby. With the score 73-72, Scots would try to score with Bradley and Porter putting shots but were unable to make a bucket. Crusaders would the game 75-72.
Your Lyon College Fighting Scots women's basketball team will travel to Conway, Arkansas next week to take on the the Hendrix College Warriors this Tuesday, November 18th at 6:00 PM.
