Scots come up short in SCAC Championship Weekend

Little Rock, Arkansas - Competing in the Southern Colliegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Football Championship Weekend, #4 seed Lyon College came up short against #3 seed Hendrix College. Scots were down in early in the first quarter, while they did find success on both sides of the ball throughout the game it was not enough to get the win in War Memorial Stadium. Lyon finishes it's 2025 campaign with a record of 2-7.

Grayson Johnson went 23-of-43 for 254 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Jacobi Williams was the lead rusher on the day going 61 yards on 15 carries for 1 touchdown. Louis Calhoun was the lead receiver catching eight passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Landon Ayala recorded a receiving touchdown as well. William Litton led the team defensively, notching 11 tackles, a sack, and three tackles for loss for 10 yards. Rene Dominique recorded a sack as well. Dillon Green, Keidrick Wooten, and Oscar Anderson each broke up one pass a piece. William Littell and Jaden Foster each recorded a quarterback hurry. On Special Teams, Calhoun was the best returner with two kickoff returns for 40 yards. Kicker Jesus Romero-Castillo went 4 of 4 on PATs, recorded 252 yards and one touchback on kickoffs, and in the punt game went 75 yards on two attempts with one landing inside the 20 yardline.

On Lyon's first drive, a costly pick would put the Hendrix College Warriors in good field position on Lyon's own 49-yardline. Hendrix would score their first touchdown of the game, 7-0. Scots defense would stand, almost causing disaster for the Warriors as Austin Swaim forced a fumble that was unfortunately recovered by the offense. Swaim and Littell would make tackles to limit Hendrix's offense and force a turnover on downs. Warriors would score 13 unanswered points to have the lead going into the second quarter, 20-0.  In the second quarter Scots defense would get another stop forcing a turnover on Hendrix's own 36 yardline with Swaim, Littell, and Xiyiah Spencer-Cole stopping Hendrix's passing attack. With great field position, Scots would march to the endzone in four plays with Johnson finding Ayala on the 8-yardline to score a touchdown, 20-7. On kickoff, a big Warriors return would setup another scoring drive starting on Lyon's own 22-yardline, 27-7. Lyon's next drive would be unsuccessful, but a punt pinned Hendrix inside their own 15-yardline. Once again defense would keep the Scots in it as Litton recorded a sack, forcing them to punt from their own 1 yardline. With it 1st & 10 on Hendrix's own 29, a pass to Ta'Jon Ellis, and runs by Jacobi Williams, would set up Johnson to find Calhoun in the endzone for the second touchdown, 27-14. The Hendrix Warrirors maintained their lead going into halftime.

To start the second half, Hendrix was moving the ball down the field quickly, but Lyon's Green forced a fumble that was recovered by Littell. Unfortunately, Scots did not capitalize on this opportunity, giving up a fumble deep in their own territory. Hendrix would score on this next possession, 34-14. Down but not out, Johnson would push the ball down the field, throwing strikes to Noah Osborne and Calhoun who would catch his second touchdown of the day, 34-21. Warriors would respond going 69 yards in four plays to take a 20 point lead, 41-21. With 4:01 left in the third quarter Lyon needed to score quickly so continued the passing attack, this lead to turnover on downs with after multiple incompletions. Warriors next drive would run into the 4th quarter taking almost five minutes off the clock. This drive would reach Scots own 2 yardline, but multiple penalties would set them back. Scots defense would the make another stop, as Sean Sigman, Swaim, Spencer-Cole would make tackles and Green would breakup a pass to force a turnover. Lyon's next drive would be unsuccessful and Hendrix would score again, now 48-21. Calhoun would give Scots great field position with a 40-yard return, going down at the Hendrix 39 yardline. Jacobi Williams would find the endzone on an 8-yard carry, 48-28. With 4:48 left in the fourth, Hendrix would bleed clock on runs and find endzone a final time, 55-28.
