Scots men's basketball falls to the Crusaders in overtime 60-56

IRVING, TEXAS - Tied at the end of regulation the Lyon College Scots and University of Dallas Crusaders would shoot it out in overtime, Scots came close but missed opportunities would lead to a 60-56 loss. Scots are now 2-1 on season. 

Colbie West was the lead scorer for the Scots putting up 23 points, scoring 14 from the field, sinking a three pointer, and making six free throws. West was also the lead rebounder with two offensive and seven defensive rebounds. Stephen Reed was the assist leader with seven total, he also added seven points off three field goals and a free throw. Xavier Sorrell, Cameron Brown, and Kenneth Brown each recorded a block. 

Back-to-back threes opened the first half for Scots with Kennedy Warren and West making the shots, 6-0. Crusaders tied around five minutes later, but a layup from Georges Archer and a three from Tucker Cunningham put the Scots on top, 11-6. Scots would extend their lead off a layup from Reed and another three pointer this time from Hudson Rogers, 21-8. Reed would record two assists on three-point field goals made by Trevon Taylor and Kenneth Brown, 27-12. A late foul by the Scots would give the Crusaders free throw opportunities, and after a make Dallas closed the lead to lead with a layup. Scots would lead going into halftime, 27-15. 

West would drive in a layup to give Lyon a 14 point lead early in the 2nd half, 29-15. Dallas would make it a ten point game, scoring four points off free throws after fouls committed by Scots, 29-19. For the next three minutes missed shots, fouls, and turnovers were committed by both teams. This ended when the Crusaders put up a fast break layup, Lyon answered with West driving one of his own, 31-21. With 10:26 left in the half, Dallas closed the lead off layups, free throws, and dunks, 35-34. Now a one point game, West would put up six points of a layup, free throws, and a jumper to keep Scots in the lead 41-34. Dallas would close the lead, but two free throw makes form West would put the Scots in front briefly before the Crusaders tied, 46-46, to take it overtime. 

Crusaders put up two threes early to take the lead, but free throws from West and layups from West and Reed would close the gap. Scots down 57-54, Sorrell would block a three-pointer but Crusaders would score off the rebound, 59-54. A layup driven in by Reed would be the final points scored by the Scots, as an attempted three with only five seconds left missed the bucket. \

Scots will return to Batesville to face East Texas Baptist University and will host Toy Toss night on Tuesday, November 18th at 6:00 PM in Becknell Gym.
