Scots men's basketball takes down Hendrix Warriors

Batesville, AR - Lyon College Fighting Scots men's basketball took down the Hendrix College Warriors, 74-65. Consistent fouls from the Warriors provided many opportunities for free throws, which the Scots took advantage of scoring almost half their points from the line. Lyon is now 2-0 on the season and Hendrix falls to 0-2.

Stephen Reed was the lead scorer last night putting up 19 points, 10 from from the field and adding another nine points off free throws. Kennedy Warren notched 14 points, sinking field goals and making eight free throws. Georges Archer made two goals from the field and made six free throws to record ten points for the Scots. Xavier Sorrell was the lead rebounder fighting for three offensive and nine defensive.

Warriors took the lead early, 13-6, but Sorrell got the ball to Trevon Taylor who dunked as the Scots began to close the lead. Now 13-8, Warriors would foul Archer who was sent to the line and came with both points, 13-10. Archer, Colbie West, Reed, and Taylor would score seven points off free throws from 11:30 to 6:49 in the first half. Scots would finally score again on something other than free throws as Archer added a layup (6:21), 29-20. Hendrix would maintain their lead adding another eight points, 37-26. A jump shot from Reed, layup from Warren, and free from both of them would close the lead to only four points, 37-34. While Lyon was down going into halftime the feeling of the game seemed to have changed, Scots could and would catch the Warriors.

Scots would, only three minutes into the second catch and overtake the Warriors as Warren and Kenneth Brown would put ip four points, 41-39. Hendrix would still try and close the lead,  but Scots aggressive play style continued to earn fouls with Reed making the and one after putting up another bucket (13:28). Reed would continue to make his presence known as he put up back-to-back layups (10:15 & 9:05), 54-46. Scots would stay out in front as Jaaron Harriott, Warren, Brown, and West would score off free throws, a three, and layups to make it 64-55. The Warriors would continue to attack the goal but, just came up empty too often. Lyon in contrast continued their attack as a layup and free throws from Warren as well as a final free throw from Sorrell would add another win for the Scots.

Lyon College men's basketball team will travel to Irving, Texas to take on the University of Dallas Crusaders on Saturday, November 15 at 4:00 PM.
