Lyon Drops 40 on Austin with Late Surge

Lyon erupts for 23 points in the final 15 minutes to overcome an 11-point deficit and secure its first SCAC road win of the season.

Sherman, TX - Down 11 points going into the fourth quarter, the Fighting Scots roared back to life as they scored three touchdowns in seven minutes. Lyon was effective in all three phases of as special teams, defense, and offense all put each other in great positions to succeed. With this win Scots are now 2-5 on the year and now have their first Southern Colliegiate Athletic Conference road win of the season 1-3. 

Offensively Lyon had 434 total yards with 235 through the air and 199 on the ground. Grayson Johnson was the lead passer of the day going 20-of-32 for 235 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Jacobi Williams led the team in rushing going 90 yards on 15 carries for two touchdowns. Javarion Williams was the lead receiver on the day with 86 yards on 6 catches for a touchdown. Defensively Jason Crawford Jr. was the top tackler with ten total tackles of which three were solo and seven assisted. Jaden Foster and William Litton led the team in tackles for loss each recording 1.5. Foster was also the sack leader with 1.5 sacks and led the team in quarterback hurries with two. Oscar Anderson had the lone interception of the day. In Special teams Jesus Romero-Castillo was 3-of-3 in PATs, had 431 yards and four touchbacks on kickoff.In punts he had 167 yards on four punts, two were inside the 20-yard line and had a punt go for 50 or more yards. Louis Calhoun on kick return racked up 95 yards on four receptions. 

First quarter Scots offense got off to a rough start as the first drive was just unsuccessful and the second ended early after a Donovan Jordan fumble that was recovered by Austin College. With that fumble Roos would get the ball on their own 44-yard line. They would take seven plays to find the endzone on a 34-yard rush and with a good PAT brought the score to 7-0. Calhoun would return the kickoff for 18-yards to set us up on our 21-yard line, as Johnson would complete three +15 yard passes on this drive to Ashton Scott, Landon Ayala, and Keilin Hall. However Scots would come away empty handed as Johnson would throw a pick in the endzone that was tackled for a touch back. Roos would begin their drive with 1:41 left in the first. Lyon's defense would shut down this drive with Crawford making a tackle and Foster notching a sack and a quarterback hurry to force a punt from their own 8-yard line to start the second quarter.

In the first drive of the second quarter Tky Posey would go 21 yards in three carries to get the Scots in the redzone, where Johnson would find Noah Osborne in the endzone. A good PAT from Romero-Castillo would tie it 7-7. Scots defense would come to play over the next two series limiting the Roos. At 8:50 Kartez Simon pressured Austin's quarterback and Austin Swaim would limit the passing attack to force a field goal attempt that was missed wide right. At the Roos drive starting at 2:48, Rene Dominique and Foster notched a sack for a loss of seven yards. Now 2nd & 17 on Roos own 8-yard line Litton and Crawford would stop a rush for only eight yards. Roos would try to pass but could not find their man, so had to punt it away for Javarion Williams to fair catch it on their own 47-yard line. Williams would then catch a 47-yard pass from Johnson for a touchdown, Scots would lead 14-7 after a good PAT going into half-time. 

Austin would score on the first drive coming back from halftime. Going six plays in under three minutes, Roos would complete a 34-yard pass for a touchdown and good PAT to tie it 14-14. On kickoff Calhoun would return it for 37-yards to give Scots a good starting point. Ta'Jon Ellis would catch a 13-yard pass and Jacobi Williams would rush for 24 yards to get near the redzone. Scots would be forced to kifck a field goal after coming up short up in passing game, taking back the lead 17-14. On the next possession Roos would steadily drive down the field to score a touchdown off a 33-yard pass, a good PAT later it was now 21-17. Lyon would come up short on their next drive, but Austin would on the second play of theirs on a long rushing touchdown making it 28-17. Scots would begin this drive with 2:05 left in the third quarter and continue it into the fourth. Osborne would catch a pass from Johnson for 29-yards, putting the Scots on the Roos 40-yard line. Johnson and Jacobi Williams would rush for combined 17-yards to get Lyon into the redzone as time ran out in the third quarter. 

Jacobi Williams would rip off a 17-yard run to score a touchdown and Johnson would find Javarion Williams in the endzone for the two-point conversion, 28-25. Jabori Johnson, Brady Cook, Crawford, and Litton all made tackles that kept the Roos behind the chains forcing them to punt on a 4th and 2. Starting on the Scots 39-yard line, Johnson was sacked on the first play. Undaunted, your Fighting Scots kept up the attack as Johnson completed a 22-yard pass to Javarion Williams. Jordan would rip off six 26-yards rushing to get us to Austin's 9-yard line. Johnson would find Jordan in endzone and another good PAT later Scots were back on top, 32-28. On the first play of the Roos next drive Anderson would get a pick that he would return for 16 yards back to the Austin's own 19-yard line. Scots took advantage of this great position with Ayala catching a 12-yard pass from Johnson and Jacobi Williams putting up another touchdown. Scots went for two as Johnson found his way into the endzone to make it 40-28 Scots. With 7:44 left in the game Lyon's defense had to stop one last drive. Roos would move the ball with a big chunk pass and a penalty moving them closer. William Littell, Dominique, and Litton would stop their running game forcing them to throw it, Roos missed their man and turned the ball over to the Scots. Lyon would run the ball till time expired. 

Your Lyon College Fighting Scots will return home to Batesville where they will face their final opponent of the regular season the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs this Saturday, November 8th at 1:00 PM in Bad Boy Mowers Stadium.
