Batesville, AR – The Scots battled hard and earned a well-deserved 1-0 victory over the Mississippi University for Women Owls. With the win, Lyon sets its sights on the upcoming SLIAC Conference Championship Tournament and improves to 3-8-3 on the season.
Scots showed their colors on offense by amassing 16 shots, with nine on target.
Katelyn Balderas had a breakout performance, recording four shots—three on goal—and netting the lone score of the match.
Emma Rumore added three shots, one on target, while
Jessica Steele,
Zoe Papazoglou, and
Emily Betzold each contributed two shots apiece, with two of them placing attempts on goal.
Audrey Cox,
Rylie Williams, and
Jasmine Goodrum also made their presence known with one shot each, all on target. In goal,
Millie Beller started between the pipes, facing three shots and making two saves.
Jessie Stauffer entered in relief for the final 18 minutes, adding one save to complete the combined shutout.
The Scots went on the attack early, firing back-to-back shots from
Zoe Papazoglou and
Jessica Steele.
Emma Rumore broke through the defense and got a clean look at goal, but her attempt was stopped by the Owls' keeper.
Katelyn Balderas followed with a powerful shot on target, only to be denied once again by another strong save. Both teams traded possessions and scoring opportunities throughout the period, but neither could break through as the first half ended in a scoreless stalemate.
Five minutes into the second half, the Owls fired a shot on goal, but
Millie Beller stood tall to make the save.
Jasmine Goodrum battled through a parliament of Owls to get a shot off, but her attempt was deflected by the goalkeeper. Moments later,
Jessica Steele sent a perfectly placed ball up field to
Katelyn Balderas, who found the back of the net to score the lone goal of the match making a fitting highlight for the Scots' final home game of the regular season.
