Clarksville, AR - Scots volleyball swept the University of Ozarks Eagles in three sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-14). With the win, Scots are now 11-12 on the season and remain 5-5 in SLIAC conference play.
Scots played a very complete match tonight recording 32 kills, seven service aces, two blocks, 28 assists, 52 digs, and hit .159.
In the first set Keely Beary racked up the first kill, but Ozarks responded with a 4-0 run off a kill, errors, and an ace. Scots battled back to take and hold the lead on 8-0 run, with kills from
Claire Carothers,
Isabel Cervantes,
Cristen Cleveland. Now up 10-4, a kill from Cleveland set up by
Madeline Hopson and two errors by the Eagles put up three more points. Eagles would close the lead, but a kill from
Mollie McCoy set up Cervantes would keep a five point difference, 15-10. Ozarks would get within three, but a three errors would make it a six point lead, 19-13. Eagles would battle back again coming close but Cleveland would drive in another kill, 22-19.
Avery Fuller would send two back-to-back service aces to the hardwood to take the first set.
Second set was much more competitive with teams tying six times, four of which occurred early in the set. Both teams traded points to start but a
Sofia Santis service ace would put the Scots in the lead briefly before it was tied for the third time, 3-3. Carothers would drive in a kill set up by Cervantes, but Eagles would take the lead soon for only a moment before Fuller drove in a kill of her own to tie it, 6-6. Scots would break the stalemate with an 8-0 run, scoring off kills from Beary, Santis, Cervantes, Cleveland, and a Carothers ace to make it 14-8. Hopson would set the ball for Fuller to drive in another kill to take the lead to seven, 17-10. Ozarks would close the lead but a McCoy kill would keep Scots in the lead for a moment before a 4-0 run from the Eagles made it a tie, 20-20. Two errors and three kills from Beary, Cervantes, and Cleveland would take set two for the Scots.
Cervantes led off the third set with two back-to-back kills set up by Santis to take the lead early, 2-0. Fuller and Cervantes drove in a kill a piece with Hopson running the offense, 6-2. Ozarks closed the gap and took the lead off a block, kills, errors, and an ace, 8-7. Scots would storm back with a 9-0 run of their own, scoring off three Cleveland aces, a McCoy kill, and multiple errors to go up 16-8. Teams would exchange blows with Cervantes setting up kills for Fuller and McCoy, while Hopson assisted Beary on a kill to keep the Scots on top, 19-11. Of the last six points of the set four would come off Eagles errors, one off a block laid by Fuller, and a final kill from Cleveland. Scots would take the final set up 25-14.
Cleveland led the team in points (11), kills (8), service aces (3), and is tied with Santis in digs (10). Santis contributed one kill, five assists, and one ace in addition to her digs. Beary and Fuller led the team blocks, accounting for one each. Beary added five kills, one assist, and four digs. Fuller put up four kills, two aces, and three digs. Hopson ran the offense with 13 assists to her name. In addition to fueling the offense she was a big player on defense notching nine digs.
