Conway, AR - The Lyon Collge Scots played it close going into halftime as they put up two scores in the 2nd quarter to close the Hendrix College's Warriors lead, 24-21. Warriors would respond with two scores in the second half off big plays to take the game, 38-21. Scots are now 1-5 on the season and are 1-2 in SCAC conference play.
Offensively Lyon had 233 yards with 193 coming through the air and only 40 being made through the ground game.
Grayson Johnson was 17-of-26 for 148 yards and two touchdowns.
Javarion Williams led the team in receptions with 73 yards on eight receptions, his longest catch going for 33-yards.
Ta'Jon Ellis and
Jacobi Williams each recording a receiving touchdown.
Javarion Williams also led the team in rushing yards totaling 26-yards and a touchdown. Defensively
Jason Crawford Jr. was Scots lead tackler, tallying seven solo tackles today.
Keidrick Wooten notched 2.5 tackles for loss for 6 yards and a had an interception. On special teams,
Louis Calhoun recorded 57 yards on three kickoff returns and Jesus Romero Castillo was 3-3 on points after touchdowns.
Scots defense made an impact early in the game as tackles by
Kartez Simon, Rene Dominque, and a broken up pass by
Jabori Johnson limited Warriors to a field goal, 3-0. On Lyon's first drive
Jacobi Williams would cross the half field line on rushes, but a fumble recovered by Hendrix would allow them to score another touchdown on a deep pass, 10-0. Down but not out Johnson would find
Javarion Williams on the Hendrix 33-yard line, he would be brought down at the Hendrix 10-yard line after getting another 20-yards.
Jacobi Williams catch a pass from Johnson in the endzone and Romero-Castillo would get it between the posts to make it 10-7. Hendrix would respond with a four play drive scoring on an over 50-yard rush, 17-10. On the kickoff Calhoun would give the Scots good field position as returned the ball for 38-yards to Lyon's own 46-yard line. Kielin Hall on the carry would cross the 50-yard line as the drive extended into the second quarter, where
Javarion Williams would score off a 26-yard rushing touchdown. Romero-Castillo would kick the extra point good to make it 17-14. On Hendrix's next drive a 91-yard pass touchdown was negated after holding penalty, on their next downs Wooten would make back-to-back tackles as the Warriors were forced to punt. On the next drive Johnson would send one to
Walker Traxler for 35-yards, putting the Scots just three yards shy of the endzone. Ellis would catch a touchdown pass from Johnson and Romero-Castillo would drive in the extra point to make it 21-17. Next two drives for Hendrix just stalled out as tackles from
Jacob Hutto, Crawford Jr., and an interception by Wooten would give Scots another chance. Lyon's offense would come away empty-handed turning it over on downs, but ball is on Hendrix's 30-yard line. The Warriors would score again before the half to go up 24-21.
After halftime, Scots led a drive the ended with the ball being punted away. Hendrix would go then score off a long pass and successful PAT making it 31-24. Scots offense would get shut down going three and out. Scots defense would make tackles but, three rushes for ten or more yards would shorten the field quickly as the Warriors would score again, 38-21. Scots offense was just not able to get going in the third quarter. Coming into the quarter 4th quarter Hendrix would go on a 11 and half minute drive going for 19 plays for 64 yards. This bled a lot of clock as the drive would finish with only 4:31 left to go. Scots would put down this first drive with
Hearsey McCrady,
Kartez Simon, Wooten, Tramps Stubbs, and
Sean Sigman making tackles to finally end it. Scots final drive would be unsuccessful but, defense would have to make one more stop as Will Litton would make the final tackle to prevent last second score.
Scots will head to Sherman, TX to take on the Austin College Kangaroos next Saturday, November 1st at 1:00 PM.
