BATESVILLE, Arkansas -
Molly Mason made two free throws with four seconds left to seal an 80-76 much needed SLIAC victory for the Lyon College Scots women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots (5-6, 2-2) led by as much as 16 points in the third quarter, 61-45 on a jumper from
Natalya Kaza, but MUW came back to close the gap to one point, 69-68 with 7:39 to go in the game.
Emily Walley made a three-pointer for the Scots and
Savanna Lopez scored with three minutes to play to make it 74-70. The Owls closed to within two points at the two and half minute mark, but Mason made two free throws to push the Lyon College advantage back to four points.
MUW scored twice to tie the game at 76-76 with 1:32 to go, then Kaza made was fouled and made two free throws with 1:14 left. The Owls missed two three-pointers in the final minute before Mason sealed the game with two more free throws.
MUW trailed Lyon College 23-22 after the first quarter and fell behind 49-38 by halftime. The Owls outscored the Scots 23-18 in the third quarter, but Lyon College held a 67-61 lead.
Kaza led all scorers with 30 points, five rebounds and five assists. Mason finished with 15 points and
Emily Walley had 10 points and six rebounds. Lopez had nine points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. Dayle Hambelton had seven points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, while
Haven Cooper had six points and
Alexis Shelton finished with three points.
The Scots will take on Fontbonne at home on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and then play Principia on Saturday at 1 p.m.
