BATESVILLE, Arkansas - There were some milestones made by the Lyon College Scots women's basketball team as
Savanna Lopez eclipsed the 500 rebounds mark in her career and
Natalya Kaza inched closer to 1,000 points with 31 points, but the visiting Webster won the SLIAC contest at Becknell Gymnasium on Thursday night 104-80.
The Scots (7-11 and 4-7) fell behind Webster 40-21 in the first quarter, but outscored the Gorlocks 23-10 in the second period to make it a 50-44 game. Webster came out in the second half to outscore Lyon College 27-10 in the third quarter and 27-26 in the fourth period.
Kaza led the way with 31 points, Lopez had 14 points and eight rebounds,
Alexis Shelton scored 10 points,
Jewel Walley,
Molly Mason and
Olivia Jones scored five points each,
Savannah Stout added four points,
Emily Walley had three points and
Izabel Soto hit a three-pointer.
Dalye Hambelton didn't score in the game, but dished out 10 assists.
Haven Cooper had five rebounds, but did not score and
Olivia Wallace had two rebounds in the loss.
The Scots shot 40.9 percent from the field, made 5-of-15 three-pointers and 21-of-30 free throws. They got 30 points in the paint, scored 24 points off of turnovers, had 14 second-chance points, 25 fast-break points and 20 bench points. The game was tied one time at 2-2.
Lyon College had 43 turnovers in the game and Webster had 24.
Even though the Scots trailed by 19 points entering the second period, Kaza made two layups in a row, Lopez made a jumper, Jones made two free throws, Shelton hit a layup on the fast-break, Kaza added a free throw and Lopez scored on another jump shot.Â
Kaza drove the lane for a layup, Stout made a three-pointer and Kaza made two free throws to cut the Webster lead down to 48-41 with 1:30 to go in the first half. Mason stepped out for a three-pointer just before the buzzer to make it 50-44.
Lyon College hosts Westminster on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
