BATESVILLE, Arkansas -
Kylon McCullough scored 25 points to go with 11 rebounds and
Frank Toney added 23 to lead the Lyon College Scots past the Eureka Red Devils 80-69 on Thursday night at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots (9-5, 4-1) trailed 35-32 at halftime, but outscored Eureka 48-34 in the second half to take the win by 11 points.
Colbie West added 10 points, Jonzelle Bush added eight points,
John Paul Morgan had six points and eight rebounds,
Malik Madison had four points and four blocked shots and
Kennedy Warren added four points. Trent Bell,
Tucker Cunningham and
Luke Bridges also played key minutes in the game, but did not score.
Lyon shot 41.3 percent from the field, hit 6 of 20 three-pointers and made 12 of 14 free throws in the SLIAC victory. The Scots got 38 points in the paint, scored 21 points off of 11 Eureka turnovers, had 13 second-chance points, 30 fast-break points, got 14 points from the bench and the score was tied twice, with four lead changes.
The Scots trailed early in the first half and got as close as one point five different times with the last being 29-28 with 3:11 to go in the first half on two free throws by Toney.
McCullough hit a shot to start the second half and West made a three-pointer to tie the game at 37-37 with 18:49 to play. McCullough made a layup to put Lyon College in front and added another. Toney scored on a layup to make it 43-37. The Scots never trailed after that point.
A three-pointer from McCullough made it a 12 point Lyon College lead, 57-45 with 11:45 to go. A few seconds later, Morgan scored inside and Toney hit a jumper for a 61-48 advantage. Scores from Morgan, Toney and a three-pointer from McCullough made for a 19-point Scots' lead with 4:16 to go.
Lyon College play at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Becknell Gymnasium against the Blackburn Beavers.
