Katelyn Balderas and
Jessica Steele each had one goal in a 3-0 shutout win over the Randall University Saints on Thursday afternoon at Huser Field in Batesville.
The Scots (1-2) had 18 on-goal shots in the match (nine in the first half and nine in the second period). Lyon attacked first with a sot by Hanna Birgisdottir that was saved. Steele came back seconds later for another shot as the Scots kept pressuring in the ball in the offensive half of the field.
At the 21:23 mark of the first half, Betzold nailed a 25-yard kick into the net to put Lyon College ahead 1-0. Balderas took three shots on goal and
Nataly Furne had a shot in the 36th minute. Furne came back for another shot six minutes later and the period ended with the Scots holding on to the lead.
Steele had two shots in the first three minutes of the second half, then
Zoe Papazoglou put up a shot that was just saved off the right corner of the goal. Baldares had a shot at in the 63rd minute and Balderas got a header to go in off an assist from Papazoglou at the 68:37 mark of the second half to put Lyon College ahead 2-0.
About seven minutes later, Steele broke free for a goal off an assist from
Mikayla Neveloff to make it a 3-0 Scots lead.
Natalie Wyatt came in off the Scots bench to take a shot in the 81st minute and
Angela Penaflor followed with a shot attempt, as well.
Defensively,
Allison Byars,
Emilee Simpson,
Lauren Couture and
Emma Rumore kept Randall from scoring. The Scot used
Bethanny Moore in the first half at goal and
Jessie Stauffer in the second half.
Substitutes,

Alexis Whitley played crucial minutes for the Scots during the win.
