BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets took a 38-0 first half lead on Lyon College, but the Scots fought back for two second half touchdowns in a 41-14 loss at Batesville High School on Saturday night.
The Scots (1-2, 0-1) stepped out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) this week and had some individuals come on strong with two second half touchdowns, which came in the fourth quarter.Â
With 13:26 left in the game, quarterback
Grayson Johnson scored on a five-yard keeper and
Jesus Romero-Castillo added the extra point.Â
A few minutes later, Reggie Brown II caught a 28-yard perfectly thrown pass from Johnson for a touchdown, and with Romero-Castillo's PAT, Lyon College closed to within 38-14 at the 7:54 mark.
Johnson threw for 116 yards on 10-of-18 passing and had one touchdown and two interceptions.
Christian Barber was 9-of-21 for 57 yards and one interception on the night.Â
Jaylin Babers led the Scots rushing attack with 13 carries for 26 yards, while Grayson had seven rushes for 23 yards.
Aedan Huntsman had five carries for four yards.Â
Receiving for Lyon College, Brown caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown, Babers had four catches for 49 yards,
Javarion Williams had three receptions for 17 yards, Huntsman had two catches for 12 yards,
Cedric Allen had two catches for 11 yards,
Xavier Long had one reception for eight yards, while
Donovan Jordan and
Noah Osborne had one catch each.
Michael Wingo had nine tackles to lead the Scots defense,
Keidrick Wooten had eight solo tackles and two sacks, Kirby Jackson, Jr. had five tackles and two sacks,
Mason Davis,
Rian King,
Hearsey McCrady and Nate Saver all had four tackles. Sarver also had a sack in his totals.
Rene Dominique,
Tanner Pollett, Xyiah Spencer-Cole and
Slayton Wheeler had three tackles each.Â
Lyon College had a net total of 174 yards passing in the game and 201 yards of total offense and the Scots had four turnovers.
Lyon College returns to Batesville High School field next Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff against Texas Luther of the SCAC.
