Box Score ABILENE, Texas - The Lyon College football Scots entered their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game against the McMurry War Hawks and lost 48-6.
The Scots (1-1, 0-1) gave an interception for a 32-yard touchdown on three plays into the contest.Â
Trailing 8-0, Lyon quarterback
Joe Galay ran the ball in for a 5-yard touchdown, but the try for two-points failed, leaving the score 8-6.
Mason Davis and Will Litton combined to sack the McMurry quarterback and force a 4th-and-20 punting situation. Later, Zach Morange broke up a long pass attempt by the War Hawks and the first quarter ended with the Scots down by two points.
In the second quarter, Lyon had the ball at the McMurry 1-yard line and
Jesus Romero-Castillo's field goal attempt was blocked. McMurry scored soon after on it's own field goal from 29-yards to make it 11-6.
The Scots fumbled the ball away on the next series and McMurry capitalized with a touchdown to make it 18-6.Â
Lyon College threw another interception, which was returned 45-yards for a War Hawk touchdown to up their lead to 25-6 by halftime.
McMurry took the second half opening kick off and drove in for a touchdown to up its score to 32-6. Then, a 17-yard Lyon College punt resulted in another War Hawk touchdown to make it 39-6 in the third quarter. Then a 23-yard Scots punt ended up with McMurry kicking a 36-yard field goal to go up 42-6
McMurry added another touchdown midway through the fourth quarter that was highlighted by Michael Woods Caw blocking the extra point, but the Scots trailed 48-6 at that point.Â
The Scots used four quarterbacks in the game,
Joe Galay,
Noah Paez,
Grayson Johnson and Bryton Usery.Â
Lyon College will host its home-opener against Howard Payne University on Saturday, September 21 at 6 p.m. at Batesville High School.
