DU BOIS, Pennsylvania - The 2024 season came to abrupt end for the Lyon College Scots softball team on Tuesday afternoon at Heindl Field in Du Bois, Pennsylvania.

The Scots (19-19) lost their second game of the double-elimination USCAA Small College Softball World Series on Tuesday to Penn State Du Bois 6-4 in eight innings. Lyon lost on Monday night 1-0 to Penn State Schuylkill.

In Tuesday's game, Du Bois took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when the lead off batter was hit by a pitch, stole second and advanced home on two sacrifice outs. 

The Scots got a double from MK Duffield with two outs in the bottom of the first, but she was left on base. Meanwhile, Lyon starting pitcher Mckenzie Campbell was busy striking out 13 batters in the game. She reached base in the bottom of the second inning on a throwing error by Du Bois with two outs.

Campbell struck out the Du Bois side in the top of the third inning. Jada-Lynn King led off the bottom of the third inning with a base hit to right field. Sophie Varela put down a sacrifice bunt and Anna Voth singled to left field, but King was out at third base. With two outs, Duffield singled through the right side to advance Voth to third base, but a ground out ended the inning.

Trinity Arrambide led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple to center field and scored when Georgia Holzer grounded out to short. Campbell singled up the middle with one out and Brianna Morquecho came in as a pinch-runner for her. Chloe McCance singled to left field, then Morquecho and McCance stole up a base. King grounded out to second to bring in Morquecho and McCance scored on a Du Bois throwing error to make it a 3-1 Scots lead.

Voth was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning and was left on base. 
Du Bois came back to score three runs in the top of the sixth inning and lead 4-3 on three hits and one error. 

In the bottom of the seventh, King singled to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch with one  out. Voth reached on an error and King went to third base. Voth stole second and Duffield hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in King and move Voth to third. But with two outs, the Scots struck out to end the inning with the score tied 4-4.

In extra innings, Du Bois scored two runs in the top of the eighth with the international tie-breaking rule in effect. 
The Scots had a strike out, ground out to third base and a final strike out to end the game and their season.
