Toney's 34 points leads Lyon College past Bryant & Stratton Buffalo 77-70 in USCAA Semifinals

RICHMOND, Virginia - The Lyon College Scots men's basketball team will join the Scots women's team for a history making event, when both teams will now be in the USCAA Division I Small College National Tournament Championship games on Wednesday.

The Scots (18-8) defeated Bryant & Stratton Buffalo Bobcats  77-70 on Tuesday morning in the semifinal game to advance to the championship. Frank Toney led Lyon College with 34 points, while Nikola SaSaroga added 19 points and  13 rebounds for a double-double and Trenton Bell had 10 points to complete the double-figure scoring for Lyon.
Kylon McCullough added six points and seven rebounds, Malik Madison scored four points, John Paul Morgan added a basket, but more importantly eight key rebounds and Jaaron Harriott put in two points.

The Scots were trailing for most of the game, falling behind 41-35 at halftime.
Lyon opened the game with a slam dunk from Malik Madison off an assist by SaSaroga. However, Buffalo scored five points quickly before McCullough was able to get a jumper to fall. The Bobcats led 11-4 when Bell made a steal and layup on a fast-break. McCullough stepped out for a three-pointer and Madison put in a layup to cut the lead to three points, 14-11. 
SaSaroga scored in the paint on an assist from Morgan, Harriott made two free throws, SaSaroga scored inside again and Toney put in a layup for his first points of the game and got the Scots to within one point 22-21. With 7:35 to go in the first half, Bell hit a three-pointer that put Lyon ahead by two points. Buffalo grabbed the lead again by five points, but Toney put in a layup, SaSaroga scored inside, Toney made another basket, Morgan scored, then Toney made a three-pointer with 50 seconds to go before halftime to make it 38-35. Buffalo added a three-pointer, too and led by six at the break.

Toney opened the second half with a layup off a steal he made, SaSaroga put in a layup in the paint and Bell hit another three-pointer to cut the Bobcats lead to one point, 43-42 at the 17:47 mark. 
After SaSaroga scored again, Buffalo moved out to a five-point lead again, but Toney made two free throws, got a steal and passed to SaSaroga for a layup. With 11 minutes remaining, Toney made two free throws to tie the game at 50-50.
A minute later, Toney put in a layup and two free throws and hit a three-pointer with 8:26 to go for a 57-55 Scots lead. Toney made another three-pointer a minute later to hoist Lyon to a 60-55 advantage, but Buffalo came back to tie the game at 60-60 with 6:09 left.
Bell made a jumper to get the Scots back in front, but the Bobcats tied the game at 62-62 with 5:07 left in the contest. SaSaroga put in a layup for another two-point lead, but again, Buffalo tied the game at 64-64 with 3:54 remaining. 
The Bobcats took a lead this time, but three straight free throws from SaSaroga gave the Scots the lead 67-66 with 2:29 to go. From there, SaSaroga put in a layup and Toney made two four free throws in a row to for a 73-66 Lyon College lead with 55 seconds to play.
Toney added three key free throws down the stretch, the last coming with 13 seconds to go and McCullough iced the game by making one of two from the charity stripe with 10 seconds left for a 77-70 lead.
