Greenville women defeat Scots

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Greenville University Panthers defeated the Lyon College Scots 92-80 on Thursday night at Becknell Gymnasium in SLIAC action.

The Scots (14-8, 9-6) got a triple-double from Allison Byars who had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Savanna Lopez and Zharia Chidress had 12 points each, while Natalya Kaza and Samantha Taylor had nine points each. Stella Parker came in for seven points, Brooklyn Rowe and Alexis Soloman had five points each and Kayla Richardson had four points. 

The Scots led 28-20 after the first quarter, but Greenville came back to outscore Lyon 29-19 for a 49-47 lead at halftime. Greenville outscored the Scots 25-13 in the third quarter to take a double-digit lead.  

Lyon College came out hot with baskets by Lopez, Kaza and Byars. Kaza scored two baskets in a row, Byars made a fre throw and Lopez hit a jump shot. Childress scored to put the Scots up by 10 points, 16-6. Childress made another shot, Soloman made a three-pointer, Rowe made a three-pointer and Lopez put in a basket for a 26-17 lead with 1:22 to go in the quarter. Taylor put in a basket in the paint to put the Scots up by eight points.

Richardson scored two baskets to start the second quarter for a 32-25 Lyon lead, but Greenville went on a 9-0 run to take the lead, 34-32. Byars made two free throws, and a jump shot to tie the game at 36-36. Greenville scored the next eight points, but Parker had a basket and a layup, Soloman scored Childress made a basket inside and Taylor made a three-pointer to cut the Greenville lead to two points by halftime.

Lopez made an early basket in the third quarter, but Greenville went up by six points before Byars connected on a three-pointer. Byars made a layup, Kaza sank two free throws, Childress scored and Byars put in another basket to make it 63-60 Greenville lead. The Panthers went on an 11-0 run to lead 74-60 by the end of the period.

Childress scored twice inside for the Scots in the fourth quarter. Taylor added two free throws and Kaza put in a free throw. Lopez and Byars scored, but Greenville held an 82-71 lead with 5:22 to go in the game. 
Parker made a three-pointer, but the Panthers increased their lead to as much as 14 points before Byars and Taylor scored for Lyon College. Rowe made two free throws with 13 seconds left, but Greenville was still up by double-digits.
