Lyon College men's basketball upset at home by University of the Ozarks 81-78

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College men's basketball Scots were upset at home in Becknell Gymnasium on Tuesday night by the University of the Ozark Eagles 81-78 before a full house.

The Scots (2-2) got 23 points each from Kylon McCullough and Israel Palmer, 14 points from Malik Madison and 10 points from Frank Toney. 
Colbie West added five points and John Paul Morgan put in a three-point play that put Lyon College in the lead late in the game.

A technical foul and a two straight turnovers in the final 30 seconds, spelled defeat for the Scots against the Eagles.

The game was tied 36-36 by halftime and Lyon College built as much as a five point lead early in the second half, but most of the contest was a back-and-forth battle with Ozarks.

The Scots scored 40 points in the paint, had 14 points off of turnovers, 12 second chance points, 15 fast-break points and got three points from the bench. The score was tied seven times and there were 13 lead changes.

Madison opened the game with a dunk on an assist from Toney. McCullough scored on a layup seconds later and Madison put in a basket inside for a three-point lead.
Madison scored again on a layup, then made two free throws for a 12-9 Scots advantage at the 14:54 mark. 
Ozarks tied the game at 12-12, but a basket and a dunk from Palmer put Lyon up by four again. The Eagles scored 10 straight points to go up 22-16 before McCullough canned a jumper. 
West scored inside, Palmer made one of two free throws and McCullough hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 24-24 with 3:49 to go in the first half.
After Ozarks took the lead again, Palmer sank a three-pointer, but the Eagles answered. Palmer hit another three-pointer and again, Ozarks answered. Finally, Madison got another dunk to tie the game at 32-32, but Ozarks moved out to a four point with 1:04 to go in the half.
Toney put in a layup and Madison got his third dunk of the game with 10 seconds left to tie the game 36-36.

Madison scored again to start the second half, then McCullough added a layup for a four-point Scots lead early on. McCullough's three-pointer at the 18:07 mark made it a 43-38 game. 
Palmer scored twice, but Ozarks managed to cut the Scots lead to one point with 14:41 to go in the game, 49-48. McCullough made another three-pointers and Toney hit a trey for a 55-50 Lyon College lead, but Ozarks went on an 8-0 run to take the advantage.
West made a free throw, Toney put in a jumper and McCullough added a layup for a 60-58 lead for Lyon, but Ozarks tied the game at 60-60 with 8:06 left.
Palmer made a jumper shot and McCullough hit another three-pointer to extend the Scots to a five-point advantage and after a score by the Eagles, Palmer made two free throws and McCullough made one of two for a 68-63 Lyon College lead at the 5:45 mark.
Ozarks got to within two points, 70-68 but Morgan completed a three-point play to push the lead back to five with 4:12 to go. Toney made a three-pointer to keep the lead at five, but the Eagles came back and took a one-point lead, 77-76 with 48 seconds to play. 
McCullough made a jumper for the Scots to retake the advantage with 35 second on the clock, but two crucial turnovers by Lyon ended up as a five-point swing for the Eagles to end the game.

Lyon travels to Austin College on Saturday for another non-conference game.
