CORAOPOLIS, Pennsylvania -- Lyon College men's soccer opens USCAA Tournament pool play with a 3-0 upset victory over #1 Bryant & Stratton Rochester.
Lyon College struck first in the 14th minute when
Matheus Nunes scored an unassisted goal, marking his third of the season and leading to a 1-0 lead for the Scots. That score held up as the Scots went into halftime with the lead.
Erik Oliveira added an unassisted goal of his own just under four minutes into the start of the second half, increasing his team-leading season goal total to seven, and giving the Scots a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute.
Lucca Torres tacked on the exclamation point in the 90th minute with his second goal of the season on an assist by
Ariel Reyes to cap off the Scots' 3-0 victory.
The Scots had ten total shots, with eight of them being on-goal. Nunes and Oliveira each scored on their only shots of the match, Torres had two on-goal shots with one score,
Joao Barros had two on-goal shots,
Nate Peterson and
Gustavo Giesbrecht each had one on-goal shot, and both
Tiago Donadon and
Luca Cirgliano got a shot off.
Lyon College goalkeeper
Gabriel Rangel had yet another clean sheet, allowing zero goals and picking up six saves, increasing his season total to a team-best 65.
The Scots battle #5 Stanton University tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM CT, the winner of that match faces the winner of Pool B in the USCAA National Championship match on Monday.
