SHERMAN, Texas - The Lyon College Scots ended their 2024 football season, their first in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, with a 31-21 loss at Austin College on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (1-9, 0-8) took the early lead on a 7-yard touchdown run from
Bryton Usrey. With the extra-point kick from
Jesus Romero-Castillo, Lyon College led 7-0 with 11:51 to play in the second quarter.
Austin College tied the game at the 8:32 mark of the second quarter and that score stood at halftime.
The Scots fell behind 24-7 early in the fourth quarter, but
Jaylin Babers capped off an 11-play 75-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown. Romero-Castillo added the PAT to cut the score to 24-14 with 7:46 to play in the game.
Austin College scored again on a 39-yard touchdown run, but the Scots fought back when
Javarion Williams caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Usrey to make it 31-21 with 3:34 to go.
For the game, Usrey was 21-of-39 passing for 171 yards and threw one touchdown and had one interception. Babers rushed 30 times for 147 yards and scored a touchdown. Williams led the Scots receivers with six catches for 53 yards and a touchdown.Â
