Lyon College defeats Principia 3-1 in SLIAC action

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College men's soccer Scots kept their hopes alive for a SLIAC regular season championship by defeating Principia 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Huser Field in Batesville.

The Scots (7-5-4, 5-1-2) handed the Panthers (7-4-3, 5-1-2) their first conference loss of the season.

Lyon College scored first when Tomas Biasi headed in a goal in the 20th minute on an assist by Guesavo Giesbrecht. Principia came back in the 46th minute to tie the game, but in the 73rd minute, Erik Oliveira put in a penalty kick to put the Scots up 2-1. Later in the 82nd minute, Tiago Donadon scored on a point-blank shot off an assist from Oliveira for a 3-1 Lyon College lead.

The Scots had eight shots, and seven of those were on-goal. Lucas Crivilatti had an on-goal kick, Oliveira had two shots and scored his on-goal PK, Matheus Nunes had two on-goal kicks and Biasi scored on his only on-goal header, then Donadon had his only on-goal kick score as well.

Lyon College goalkeeper Gabriel Rangel had four saves in the match.

The Scots play at Mississippi University for Women next week in their final SLIAC match of the season. A win could give them a co-championship.
