Scots women's basketball drops home game to unbeaten Webster

BATESVILLE, Arkansas -  Savanna Lopez scored 23 points, Natayla Kaza had 20 points, while Allison Byars and Samantha Taylor had 11 points apiece in a 100-87 home loss to Webster University on Saturday afternoon at Becknell Gymnasium.

The Scots (9-7, 4-5) faced undefeated Webster and trailed 27-25 after one quarter. The Gorlocks led 52-45 at halftime.  The Scots never led in the game. 

Webster led 13-2 before Lopez was able to make four baskets in succession, but Lyon trailed 24-12. Taylor made a jump shot, Olivia Jones scored, Kaza made a three-pointer and Byars scored two baskets. Kaza put in two free throws to close the gap to two points by the quarter's end.

Webster led 36-25 before Taylor was able to make two free throws. Zharia Childress scored inside twice and Kaza made a three-pointer for the Scots. Alexis Soloman got a basket, Byars made a three-pointer and Taylor closed out the half with the final three points to close the Webster lead to seven points. 

Kaza's three-pointer at the 6:28 mark of the third quarter made it a two-point Webster lead, 56-54. Kaza made another three-pointer and Lopez put in a basket. Taylor made a free throw and Lopez hit a jump shot to close the game to three points. Byars and Brooklyn Rowe had baskets for the Scots before the end of the period to make it 71-63. 

Lyon fell behind by 10 points, but a layup from Lopez a three-pointer by Rowe and another short basket from Lopez cut it to a five-point Webster lead with 5:01 to play, 79-74. Lopez made another jumper to put the game back at five points, but Webster went on an 8-2 run to go back up by 10 points and led by as much as 13 with 1:58 to go.
