Natalya Kaza scored 33 points and had six steals,
Samantha Taylor had 24 points and six steals,
Savanna Lopez had 14 points and nine rebounds, while
Allison Byars added 13 points and eight assists in a 102-97 loss at Spalding University on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second straight SLAIC loss for the Scots (9-5, 4-3). Lyon College led 32-27 after the first quarter, but trailed 51-50 at halftime. Lyon outscored Spalding 27-19 in the third period to take a 77-70 lead, but the Golden Eagles came back to outscore the Scots by 12 in the fourth quarter.
Spalding led 9-0 before Lopez put in a shot and Taylor put in two free throws. A three-point play from Taylor, a jumper from
Stella Parker and a layup from Kaza tied the game at 11-11. Kaza tied the game again with two free throws, then she made a steal and layup to put the Scots in front by a basket. Kaza came back to make two three-pointers in a row for a 21-17 Lyon College lead. Lopez and Kaza got baskets and Lopez hit inside again, but the Golden Eagles came back to tie the game at 27-27 with 1:03 to go before the end of the period. Lopez made another shot inside and
Alexis Soloman made a three-pointer for a five-point Lyon College lead.
Taylor made two free throws to start the second quarter for the Scots. Kaza put in a basket and made two free throws and Taylor made one of two from the line for a 39-32 lead. Later Taylor made another free throw, but Spalding came back to take a 43-40 lead.
Kayla Richardson added two free throws and Taylor made two from the line to tie the game at 44-44 with 2:53 to go before halftime. Byars and Taylor made free throws for a three-point Lyon College advantage. Taylor got a basket to fall to maintain the three-point margin for the Scots, but the Golden Eagles came back to take a one-point lead by halftime.
Baskets by Taylor, Kaza and Byars tied the game at 56-56 and Lopez put in a shot to give the Scots the lead by two. Kaza and Byars scored, but Spalding came back to tie the game at 62-62. Byars stepped out for a three-pointer and Kaza scored inside for a five-point Scots lead. Byars scored and Parker put in a shot to make it 71-65 with 2:32 to go in the quarter. Soloman put in a basket, but the Golden Eagles got to within three points before Byars hit a jump shot and Lopez put in an offensive rebound before the buzzer to put Lyon ahead 77-70.
Kaza put in a shot for the Scots in the first minute of the fourth quarter, but Spalding came back to take an 80-79 lead two minutes later. Kaza scored two times in a row to keep the Scots ahead by one point.
Brooklyn Rowe made two free throws, but the Golden Eagles tied the game at 85-85. Lopez scored and Kaza completed a three-point play to make it 91-89 with 2:58 to go. Spalding tied the game at 91-91 and ran off five straight points to lead by five with 1:08 left. Taylor put in six straight points for the Scots, but the Golden Eagles held on at the free throw line to win the game by five.
