Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lyon College women's soccer comes back to defeat Williams Baptist 7-2

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College women's soccer team trailed 2-1 at halftime to the Williams Baptist University Eagles,  but head coach Marc Neddo told them to get those goals back - and that's exactly what the Scots did.

Within a few minutes of the second half, Lyon College (3-3) had a 3-2 lead. They added four more goals in the second half to take a 7-2 win at Huser Field against the Eagles.

Jessica Steele scored the Scots first goal at the 42:10 mark of the second half after the Williams Baptist had scored just 16 and half minutes into the game to lead 1-0. Steele was assisted by Addy Lovell, but just before halftime, the Eagles scored again to take the lead into the break.

Three minutes into the second half, Aisha Mahmound scored on a 20-yard kick. Less than a minute later, Lovell put in the leading goal for the Scots on a 25-yard kick. Steele added added her second goal of the game on a break away shot Katelyn Balderas finally got one her shots on-goal to find the net on another long kick by Lyon College. Then Taylor Hammons went straight down the middle of the defense and powered in a goal at the 80:43 mark of the game. Hammons got her her second goal of the game on nearly the same type of play, except this time the Williams Baptist goalie came out and missed the save on Hammons shot that scooted by and into the back of the net for a 7-2 Lyon College lead with less than two minutes left.

Lyon College had 31 shots at the goal, 21 of which were on-goal shots.

Mahmond had two shots on-goal and scored once, Balderas had five shots, four of which were on goal and one found the net, Hammons had five shots and four on-goal kicks with two goals to her credit, Lovell also had five shots, three of which were on-goal with one score and Allison Byars had six shots with two on-goals. Steele had four shots all of which were on-goal kicks with two scores, Maggie McCollum had two shots on goal and Hannah Young had a shot.

Defensively, Destinee Flowers started the game, but had to leave for a head injury while making a stop outside of the box. Priscilla Luevano came between the pipes and had five saves in 58 minutes of play.

The Scots enter SLIAC play on Friday afternoon when they host the Westminster Blue Jays at 2:50 p.m. at Huser Field.
