ATCHISON, Kansas - The Lyon College Scots men's soccer team were off to Kansas on Saturday afternoon to play Benedictine College.
As hard as the Scots battled on the field, they fell behind 2-0 in the first half and eventually lost the hard-fought contest 3-1.
Lyon's
Daniel Pasztor had a shot on goal saved in the first six and half minutes of the first half. A corner kick from
Andrei Galca led to a header shot on goal from
Aidan McGeown at the 7:08 mark of the half, but the shot was just high of the goal. Filipe Santana De Oliveria took a shot three minutes later that was also high of the mark. At 15:13, Lyon's Erik Olivera nearly got a score, but his shot was saved by the Benedictine goalie.Â
Benedictine scored at the 21:11 mark of the first half to lead 1-0.
Lyon's Gustavo Giesbreicht had his shot blocked and at the 39:51 mark of the half, Benedictine scored its second goal.Â
A shot by Santana De Oliveria was blocked at the beginning of the second half for the Scots. Then
Martin Esquivel took a shot that was also blocked. A header from Santana went high and Esquivel got another shot off, but it too was high as the Scots were pounding their attack on Benedictine.
Galca took a shot on goal that was saved at the 58:19 mark and Benedictine scored its third goal seven minutes later.Â
The Scots only goal came at the 67:12 mark on a shot by Mateus Nunes to make it 3-1.
Esquivel had two shots on goal saved over the next five minutes and Giesbreicht took a shot that was wide left for the Scots.
Cristian Del Gobbo had shot that was wide right and
Rafael Campos had his shot blocked and another shot saved by the goalie in the final 20 seconds.Â
