COLUMBIA, Missouri - The Lyon College Scots softball season came to an end on Tuesday afternoon by dropping a 12-4 decision to the William Woods Owls and that came after an 8-0 loss to top-seeded Cottey College in the first game of the tournament.
The Scots (19-23) had a 2-0 lead on Williams Woods, but eventually fell in the double-elimination tournament when the Owls scored eight runs to break open the game.Â
In the first game, Lyon College fell behind 8-0 after the second inning and were not allowed a hit in the game.
Sabrina Lowe and
Fallon Lancaster walked as the Scots left four runners on base in the game.
Emily Martinez was hit by a pitch. The Scots were struck out 12 times by Cottey pitchers.Â
in the second game,
Trinity Arrambide doubled tol eft field to bring in
Anna Voth and MK Duffield in the bottom of the first inning to give the Scots a 2-0 lead on William Woods.Â
But the Owls came back with three runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead, then added eight more runs in the top of the fifth to go up 11-2. Lyon College scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when Arrambide doubled to left field and scored Voth and Lancaster.Â
The Scots had four runs on five hits and left seven runners on base.
Sophie Varela got a stolen base and was caught stealing on two tries. Varela, Campbell and Martinez were all hit by pitches in the game. Voth and Duffield walked twice and Campbell walked once.Â
